This quote isnt just out of touch or disappointing, its fucking dark. Gay people are not a conversation parents need to have with their kids? Knowing gay people exist doesnt require therapy??
Any parents who thinks that way needs to have their kids removed ASAP. Get in a volcano, Pete.
Screenshot from After School Dice Club. Emmy looks off-screen in the distance, with her hair slightly blowing in the wind. Subtitles: "New games emerge through the constant evolution of games."
also does a surprisingly good job handling game design theory as a whole too, at least the two ep. I've seen so far
it at least handles it better than New Game does, which feels so surface level from memory
It is incredibly "twee" to an extent, even for a 'cute girls doing cute things' show
but I adore how legit dedicated it is to board games - having actual games per episode & in the BG, licenses publishers and all helps really sell the love it has (+ giving social games its flowers too)
decided to watch it on a whim this month, but I'm actually surprised how much I'm enjoying After School Dice Club
not that I was going in expecting garbage or anything, I just expect to dislike any show completely focused around video games/board games at this point

Screenshot from Walfie's Nonograms. Pixelart is shown of a notebook containing a drawing of Walfie jumping in excitement, while congratulating the player for finishing the game. The text in the image reads: "Congratulations!! You've completed all the puzzles! Sum of best times: 11h 42m 30s"
Walfie's Nonograms (2026)
Has easily become the best Picross game for the Game Boy, by far. The GB already was a great fit for quick pixel-art based puzzles, but this also provides the needed modern QoL additions as well as fun and charming references for its puzzles. Truly a delight.

This... was very lame and wack. It's the most "this feels like it was a failed pilot" more than anything else I've watched, but even with the runtime it uses, it doesn't give any strong reason to be captivated by its characters or mystery.
Promotional shot for The Muppet Show special. The main cast of the special pose in front of the stage's red curtains. From left to right: one of the Rats, one of the Chickens, Fozzie the Bear, Miss Piggy, Sabrina Carpenter, Kermit the Frog, Lord Scrappleton, Rizzo the Rat, Gonzo and Scooter.
The Muppet Show (2026)
This was great! I don't have a huge reverence for the old format, but this was still super enjoyable and felt like the perfect light humor I've been needing for a while. Sabrina was also a great choice for a first guest. Hoping their greenlight goes through!
Screenshot from the Taiko no Tatsujin clay animation. Katsu jumps in the air, with an wide open mouth, a large X representing his closed eyes and a huge expression of joy.
Taiko no Tatsujin (2005)
I actually did not know Taiko had any type of animation, let alone a series of claymation shorts, so this was a delight to find. That said, the humor is very much tailored for elementary kids so don't expect a riot. I still got a chuckle tho; reminded me a lot of Molcar!
Screenshot from Spelunker is a Teacher. The eyecatch for the series, showing Spelunker lying down on the ground motionless, after sitting in a mine cart that has tipped over and lays on the back of his legs.
Cropped image of a promotional piece for Getter Robo. The three pilots of Getter Robo (left to right: Musashi, Hayato and Ryouma) pose in their pilot suits and helmets, in front of Getter Robo 1.
Screenshot from the Afro Samurai pilot. A close up shot of Afro Samurai, having a cigarette in his mouth and his bandana blowing in front of his face.
Spelunker is a Teacher (2011)
Getter Robo (Movie, 1974)
Afro Samurai Pilot (2003)
Spelunker is about 40 minutes and feels like it treads all its laughs within the first 5, which says my piece about it. Getter was fine for its time, but is basically just an episode of the show. Afro was fun & short.
Screenshot from the TV version of Kyousougiga. The main cast of the show poses and stands in front of a light psychadelic background. From left to right: Kurama floating on his large gold saucer, A in his red ghost form, Yase, Lady Koto, Koto, Inari, Myoue, Myoue's dog Inuyama, and Un in his blue ghost form.
Kyousougiga (TV, 2013)
This was fun, if maybe kind of all over the place. I don't know if I felt any strong connection to its underlying story about family and having a place in the world, but I also don't know if it really cares to either vs. being a show stopper. It is, so still good but also ya.
I love games and so many of the people who make them. It was an honor to accept the award on behalf of the team and a privilege to be able to speak to what I believe in. β₯οΈ

Ask yourself: does corporate media portray that accurately?
I also have another I need to write for 2025's Williamsburg Pizza crawl. That one was fun and also incredibly draining π
2026 got pushed much further than I'd like but that's taco related!
