Matt, think of it as not rejecting tax revenue, instead we're taking a portion of rent. It's a trade, not a loss.

Reasonable people can land in different places without anyone being unserious or obstructionist. I voted yes, but I donβt dismiss the concerns raised, and we should have had a Responsible Contractor framework in place earlier, but I've submitted one so we can have it going forward once voted in.
Where I ultimately landed differently was on feasibility and timing. I didn't believe we could legally compel a union commitment at this stage without risking the project entirely & I didn't think further tabling would get us there in a defensible way. Tension btwn values & legal constraints is hard
When public resources are involved, asking for union labor commitments is both responsible and one of the very few levers cities actually have. Union labor supports good-paying jobs, safer worksites, and local economic stability. They have been consistent & principled on that front, & I respect that
I voted in favor of the PILOT because I believed the housing outcome, timing, & increased city $ warranted it, but I want to be clear that Rolanda and Eddie were not βwrongβ or acting in bad faith by raising concerns. Both had concerns about union labor commitments being absent from the agreement.

There are only a few more weeks until election day, and I will absolutely miss the innovative ways that Ferndale embraces the election season. #ratsagainstlauramikulski #rats #ferndalenormal

Trump In Oct 2025: Iβm meeting today with Russ Vought to implement Project 2025.
We need to stop the behind-the-scenes gaslighting and have a full-frontal showdown with this dude.
Oh this hits hard - a must read on the arithmetic of living.
they are almost definitely gearing up for a real sweet lawsuit
Somewhere between campaigning, council meetings, and neighborhood rat patrols, I guess this was inevitable.
Iβll admit β trading cards might be a way more fun campaign giveaway than yard signs. π

THESE RATS ARE OUT OF CONTROL.

That thing scares the hell out of me
And for anyone whoβs curious- or maybe just a fellow insomniac -you can dive into some of the research and documents Iβve compiled here, it includes pictures and video from my recent walk through of the building: drive.google.com/drive/folder...
If a land swap does move forward, weβll have more tough conversations ahead- about bare-bones reopening needs, and about long-term issues like the leaking roof above the mechanical room (more on that later), and about how we get creative with funding through partnerships and grants.
Thatβs why I never stopped believing the best path was one that allowed us to invest slowly, in incremental improvements and maintenance, preserving a legacy asset while making practical progress.
I held off a day because I'm honestly overwhelmed by this.
My biggest regret from my time on council is how this was handled, and seeing the building sit idle and deteriorate has been a constant reminder. Kulick is more than a building; it holds history, memory, and community sentiment.
way easier. Best method is dry ice burrow busting, which eliminates the majority of them in a day. Traps are also cheap, but people are squeamish.
It's been quite some time since we did a #Ferndale rat patrol presentation. I'll be presenting at the Ferndale library Tuesday 9/9 from 6-7:30PM on how to prevent and eliminate rats around your property, and I'd love to see you there! Free rat traps in limited quantities to attendees
I can't watch more than a few episodes at a time but damn do I love the memes/gifs that came from the show
there's gotta be something in the air, my tuxedo cat is trying to bolt the past few days too and I feel like she does this yearly when it gets closer to fall
the campaign ads are only going to get weirder from here, folks

Yesterday, Maurene Comey, who prosecuted the Epstein case, was summarily fired from SDNY. Her letter to colleagues pulls no punches. "Fear is the tool of a tyrant, wielded to suppress independent thought."

I kinda can't believe I'm doing this again. One more round of council if I get my 100+ signatures before Monday.
