Never shoulda voted for a party who was talking about “out-of-control” inflation in late 2024. They knew prices were still high (because lower inflation doesn’t bring prices down, it just decreases the ongoing increase), and knew that their base doesn’t understand inflation or the economy at all.

All of this is reminding me of the excesses of Louis XIV and other French rulers from that time, and we all saw where that went…

And when you see all of that, you notice that the only way in which the acceptance of Trump in these circles is an anomaly is that he’s an outsider. That’s it. Everything else about him is perfectly in line with the way leaders in religious right circles actually behave.

This is similar to what I’ve been thinking about how conservative Christian “values” leads to the rampant abuse we see in these churches: Patriarchy, expected obedience/submission, lack of proper sex education, not believing in consent, shaming victims and protecting abusers. It all goes together.

I’ve resigned to the idea that many are just fine with it. Especially his manosphere supporters who think it makes him more manly 🤢 and the Evangelical supporters who just don’t seem to give an F, just like they don’t with the predators in their churches.
