I missed this so much...
If there's one thing I want out of .hack//Z.E.R.O. it's for them to go all in on expanding the boards, news, and email systems. It's absolutely critical to the vibes.

Yeah they still seem pretty open that they view it as a dev tool and will continue doing so, which is disappointing. But if real actors are getting jobs to replace it, that's at least an improvement. Don't know if I'll try it or not, though. But the odds are now at least more than 0% lol
I've never played an Extraction Shooter before but I have fond memories of how much an unknown other players were in games like DayZ and even early PUBG. Watching someone stream Arc R@iders and I have to ask... is there a game that does exactly THIS that doesn't support AI voice acting bullshit?
I think I'll just try to emulate them. I love my PS2 but it's such an ordeal to get it hooked up with my headphones lol
If it doesn't work then I'll dig out the PS2.
I finished my rewatch of .hack//SIGN and managed to write a semi-coherent ramble on it for my big .hack series revisit thread.
Next up is Infection. Only real question is do I break out the PS2 or just emulate it?
Yeah, that's fair. If that becomes the primary thing carrying your series, it becomes impossible to actually make NEW fans too. Which leads to stagnation. I just feel like sometimes criticism of that often turns into shaming fans for being nerdy about lore/details, which feels like misapplied blame.
Is this inherently a bad thing, though? You can have both. You can have a good story and also have cool call-backs and reveals to satisfy mega-fans who have an accumulation of trivia.
I don't think Star Wars is nailing this right now tbf but it's also not bad to enjoy new media rewarding fans.
But I'm literally doing that right now (Again)
15 years later Dragon Age 2 remains one of the best Bioware games of all time. Sometimes in spite of it's development's limitations... and sometimes because of them.
But you all rejected it and made them afraid to do anything interesting ever again!
RE9 comic Big monster dragging Grace away as she screams Monster gets shot in the face BLAM!! Leon smugly: "Seems like she was... a bit of a drag" Grace, having nearly died by a giant freakish monster, looks up at Leon entirely confused "huh?"
i almost had my head bitten off by a giant freakish monster, why is this old man making lame jokes at me 😭 #re9
Kept it one game per franchise just to make it more interesting and I still had to make some hard cuts.
Love that moment when someone misheard what you said but they think you said something funny so you just claim the stolen joke valor. It's especially good when you don't understand what they think you said, so you just need to get out of there before your crime is revealed.
Goddammit
Ultimately I guess the solution is for game devs that want to do super hard meta puzzles for their fanbases to design them knowing the datamining and glitch abusers are coming. I'll always think fondly on the Demon's Souls Remake coin hunt because you HAD to do it and the community worked together.
There's no good solution to the RE9 Final Puzzle Datamining issue. It absolutely sucks that people datamined the puzzle solution and ruined the hunt for the entire world. But datamining is also a valuable tool for understanding games better. Can't have pros without the cons, sadly. Wish you could.

.... hope everything turns out okay....
If you're old enough to have watched .hack//Sign you should probably be more worried about .back//Pain
Posted this on Era but posting it here too just for fun. Dug out my old .hack collection. I bought basically all this stuff when it was new, so most of it is from 20+ years ago... and yes the stuff I never bought DOES bother me.
Normally I would say that Evangelion is a property that has no value without Hideaki Anno but Yoko Taro is QUITE the replacement.
With RE9 coming out this week I really should replay RE2R and RE4R... and yet here I am, replaying Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD instead.
I mean I wouldn't pay $20 for a single GBA rom and it SHOULD be given to people who subscribe to the GBA NSO tier. So I'm not going to say people can't complain about it. But when compared to the other news this week, it's not even close.
I love how all three of the major video game companies had shitty news this week. I'm still going to give the crown to Playstation for killing off a beloved studio and people losing work but Xbox's news will pay off big in misery later. In the grand scheme Nintendo overcharging for Pokemon is small.
regarding the recent news
Hey now. There's also Sonic fans who can't get over bad reviews from 20 years ago. Give some credit where it's due.
Thankfully that anime isn't even canon. The manga version is, which is less bad. But still intentionally silly and not really what most people think of.
