New: Councilllor Sean Orr is suing Mayor Ken Sim. Notice of civil claim filed in BC Supreme Court today says Sim "acted deliberately, maliciously and in bad faith" in making Xmas drug distribution statement and damaging Orr's reputation. Seeks damages, injunction prohibiting further such statements
Sean Orr has filed legal action against Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim for saying to media without evidence that Orr was dealing drugs on Christmas Day
mass death on this scale is incomprehensible and we have to confront this reality honestly if we want our government to do what's needed to stop the deaths because they've decided to allow them to continue indefinitely; this is a policy choice

In light of Sim saying that he said Orr dealt drugs based on seeing a mystery photo from a mystery person, I think itβs important to reflag this.
If this is an uncharitable interpretation, the mayor is free to provide more details of how he ended up seeing such a photo and believing it.
I've been told that Ken Sim told his team that a stranger waived a physical photo at him during a Chinatown event and falsely claimed that it was Orr dealing drugs on Christmas Day.
The mayor doesn't remember the specific contents or style of the photo, and can't remember who showed it to him.
What
Nobody around the mayor thinks "spend multiple days explaining why you falsely accused a councillor of dealing drugs on Christmas because you uncritically believed shit a member of the public waived at you" is a good PR strategy
Sim abruptly leaves after three questions, not answering who gave him the photo or if he will post an apology on WeChat, saying saying thatβs all the time he has.
A question is asked of a member of the mayorsβ office, who says βsend us an emailβ and leaves.
βWhat a farce,β says someone.

There have been conversations ongoing since summer where Greens and COPE have both advocated for the idea of some sort of "progressive primary" to consider getting behind or out of the way of a unity mayor candidate. Grounded in clear rational analysis, not partisanship, I am supportive of the idea.
COPE welcomes Pete Fry to the People's Primary for Mayor.

People holding signs on bridge sidewalk. Sign reads, "Kids matter, teachers care."
Today COPE showed up in solidarity with BC teachers at the Vancouver #RedforBCED rally. Teachers and their students deserve better conditions and a fair deal and we will always fight alongside public educators!
βProbably one of the biggest issues on how did we get here with these headlights being so bright is that Canada has long handcuffed itself to the U.S. regulations on how cars are built and equipped, and the U.S. regulations donβt care about headlight glare.β www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/ar...
Hootsuite's work with ICE is shameful.
We proudly support Vancouver's Access Without Fear policies.
Solidarity with everyone in Minneapolis and across the U.S. pushing back against xenophobia and fascism.
@kwardvancouver.bsky.social has become houseless in the past week. she is an incredible and badass human who has given so much life to movements rooted in care especially in the dtes. she could really use some financial support while sheβs in this volatile spot.

Hi Sam,
Netflix, which rarely carries a single movie from before 1980, wants you to know how thrilled they are to acquire that classic piece of franchise IP, Casablanca
ZERO MANDATE PEOPLE POWER SAYS NO TO ABC CUTS
People Power showed up at City Hall.
And this is just the beginning. 360+ still on list to present.
Every single ABC Councillor should be doing some soul searching about what they've heard so far. Do the right thing. Stop these cuts.
Vancouver doesn't have to be this way.

My city councilor livetweeted summaries of 269 speakers to council for like 13 hours. Amazing.
Genuinely love that we have a politician/journalist in the room for this important hearing.
Speaker 25. Budget is opaque. Misinformation is a result of lack of detail. No plan. 2024 was 500 pages. 2025 was 138. Why is this only 28. Calls out Donny van Dyk salary. Mayor cuts her off saying she negative view of character not tolerated
Zakir. I cannot be silent. You donβt even know what youβre planning to cut. Who benefits? Homeowners? Avg will save 24 bucks a month. No regard for voters. We should know what we are getting. Vast majority say we will pay because we care. Only people who benefit are ultra rich.Mayor asks him to slow
In the video they say that OC is talking with the other parties. Long time until the next election!
I do not know the record β number of speakers arenβt automatically recorded in minutes, though there were a number of motions in the Stewart era that got close to 200.
But this means a vote on the preliminary budget likely wonβt happen for a week or two.
Thanks! Looks like around 550 at least now.π΅βπ«
@jmcelroy.bsky.social Do you happen to know what the largest number of speakers at a public hearing at Vancouver City Hall has been? I'm hearing that there are over 300 people signed up to speak to the budget on wednesday.

That BC Greens Instagram post is pretty outrageousβit effectively calls Emily Lowan a liar & insists their member verification process is fine. Then, days later the party is forced (probably feeling under scrutiny by a lot of media attention) to add yet ANOTHER method for members to verify. #bcpoli
The @bcgreens.bsky.social are trying to limit the impact of @emilylowan.bsky.social's excellent organizing, like the BCNDP did to @anjaliappadurai.bsky.social. Whether this is incompetence or malice, the Greens need to rectify this, ASAP, or face irrelevance.
