βThey pushed so many lies about recyclingβ: the fight to stop big oil pumping billions more into plastics
Plastic production has doubled over the last 20 years β and will likely double again. For author Beth Gardiner, metal water bottles and canvas tote bags are not the solution. So what is?
Trying to use less plastic?
Big Oil and the plastics industry are spending billions to make sure everyone else uses more.
βI think what stood out most is the deliberateness and intentionality over the years of pushing plastic into our lives,β said @bethgardiner.bsky.social. βIt was such a shock."

Yes we can no we didnβt
Those who cannot learn from past failures are condemned to repeat them (apologies to Santayana)
We failed to avert dangerous climate change. That has consequences. Here I discuss three that, alas, no government seems to want to publicly acknowledge. My latest for Technosphere Earth

View down my street with cars parked in driveways and houses obscured by trees. A stop sign near the right of the photo. The shy is blue with rays of light streaming down diagonally from light piercing the clouds.
Witnessed an alien invasion on my evening walk. Beautiful night, almost eighty degrees.

Flawed economic models mean climate crisis could crash global economy, experts warn
States and financial bodies using modelling that ignores shocks from extreme weather and climate tipping points
'Flawed economic models mean the accelerating impact of the climate crisis could lead to a global financial crash, experts warn.
Recovery would be far harder than after the 2008 financial crash, they said, as βwe canβt bail out the Earth like we did the banksβ.'

Sixteen or so great egrets standing in or near a pond. The egrets are white with orange bills and eight or nine of them are reflected in the water. In the shore across from them is a great blue heron and a few anhingas or cormorants are near the water to the right of most of the egrets.
An egregious ingress of egrets I guess, but I digress⦠#birds
