My hometown!!! St. Thomas is so fascinating, and they’ve done some seriously incredible work on homelessness prevention. A fantastic blueprint for other small towns in Ontario.

UW NDP club creates petition over proposed budget cuts to Grand River Transit Sam Gonçalves-Horton, vice-president of activism for the University of Waterloo's NDP club, says his group started a petition over proposed budget cuts to Grand River Transit because they worry it will negatively impact service for riders. The budget cuts would see reduced bus frequency and it would also remove garbage cans from bus stops. Those cuts are not final and are still being discussed by regional council. The final 2025 budget is set to be approved on Dec. 11.

GRT
Grand River Transit
Service reductions
In order to keep the 2025 budget increase below 8 per cent, the following service reductions are being considered:

Cancellation of Route 35 Greenbrook
Reduce frequency on Route 9 Lakeshore and Route 30 Ring Road from every 20 minutes to every 30 minutes
Reduce frequency on Route 55 Grand Ridge from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes
Remove 50 per cent of trips on Route 26 Trillium
Summer service reductions would begin one week earlier
Remove garbage cans at bus stops

This is absolutely insane. Our region doesn't have enough money to fund GARBAGE CANS at bus stops but has money to increase the police budget.

We need to get more people out to speak Tues Dec 3, 5:30pm at the Strategic Planning and Budget Input Committee meeting!

Can you spare a minute to help this campaign? Stop Cuts to the GRT!

Waterloo Region is currently proposing some pretty detrimental cuts to transit this budget season, including removing garbage disposal from stations. I’ve started a petition with the UWaterloo NDP in opposition of these cuts. A signature and a share would be greatly appreciated!
