Literally from one paragraph to another you can see the author bounce back and forth between his imagination and his lived reality. I just think its neat.

Dune is so interesting as a description of a distant future written by someone in the 50s/60s. In one sentence the author is describing advanced technology and multiplanet civilizations, and in another he's describing a room as having filing cabinets in it.

Please suggest!

Seems like this will be The Year of the Podcast. Im caught up on Magnus Protocol, relistening to bits of The Magnus Archives, trying out Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature, Dominus and Welcome to Nightvale.

Whats everyone else listening to?

Relistening to the first episode of Dominus again. The one voice that threw me off was an adult mimicking a child's voice. But it seems like that was just a small part, so im trying again.

Still not sure whats going to happen, but his TA seems to believe hes telling the truth. Also professor guy slipped in mysterious water on the lecture room floor?

Modes is getting philosophical and weird things are starting to happen in the professors lecture hall. Hes hearing things the students cant hear and a lot of them believe hes faking his course. Also, nine armed rage goddesses! So thats cool!

The heroine deals with a lot of abuse from men, and while i dont condemn the author for including those topics, I do think she handled and used those topics poorly.

Tried to read The Plated Prisoner series at the behest of a friend & I dont think I can finish it. The author reduces the heroine down to the bad things that happened to her. Its one thing to make your character overcome challenges, its another to give them no personality BESIDES their challenges.

This may be the most cursed thing ive ever made, but look! I made him clothes, and a wee blunt!

We got what seems like a professor teaching a class about a super ancient culture no one believes in, political drama, paranoia, and potentially gay romance?

Voice acting for Dominus wasnt my favorite, so im gonna put it on the back burner for now. Modes on the other hand... 😳😏 2nd and 3rd episode went in an... interesting direction. Definitely going to continue.

Ok, first episode of Modes is really interesting, gonna try Dominus tomorrow night.

Ok, my plan is to fill the void with another podcast or two. Modes in Anterran Literature or Dominus (another Rusty Quill podcast that sounds promising). Or hey, maybe both!

Yep! It makes the world feel more connected. Like the distant parent language (proto indo european?) Is peeking out now and then.

After studying latin in school, its really weird and cool to see similar sounding words come up while studying Ukrainian or Russian.
Its like finding little Easter eggs as you learn new words. Makes language learning feel less like islands and more like a big connected web.

Maybe? I thought there was a girl and boy main character and that one is two boys. I could be wrong. It looks like the body they found was in a creek and the one I read was a marsh so they could only feel the dead guys hand underwater. Could be Indian creek, but I cant find a full version online 😭

It's so worth it. I especially like the 3rd book High Wizardry

That sounds really cool! Reminds me of So You Want to be a Wizard series, where the main character finds a wizard manual because a stray thread hooks her finger as she runs her hand along a row of books.

Anyone else have that one book you read as a kid that you just cant remember the title of? Mine was a story about a boy and girl that go into a bog/marsh and discover a dead body under the mud. I think the guy was a murder victim? This would've been written in the 80s or 90s.
