I'm also going to go ahead and call it blatant homophobia from the Academy that of the two Aladdin songs nominated for Oscars that year, they skipped over Friend Like Me and gave it to A Whole New World, i.e., the one that was clearly worse but wasn't written by a dead gay man

The three Howard songs in Aladdin are Arabian Nights (the intro which, admittedly, has lyrical issues related to negative stereotypes about Arabs) and the two Genie songs including "Friend Like Me", but I otherwise agree 100%. One Jump Ahead and A Whole New World are very clearly weaker songs

Among other things, I'm pretty sure that gender cannot be adequately solved under capitalism, which needs every structure of oppression and justification for inequality it can get its hands on just to stay alive while it cooks the planet / itself

Gender is specifically The Underlying Justification for The Division Of Labor across all of human society, and the wealth inequality that comes thereof. The Job of Woman is have child, raise child, maintain home, support Man. The Job of Man is do things, make things, acquire power, maintain control.

My take is that the issue with solving gender is that gender is omnipresent and omnirelevant in human society, with Man > Woman arguably The Defining Power Structure across all of humanity, underpinning just about every other kind of inequality there is. To solve gender is to solve society itself.

the fundamental assumptions that underpin the idea that trans women are a threat to sport are:

1. trans women will always be men
2. cis women will always be weaker and less capable than men

both of these assumptions are often axiomatic positions that people have not reasoned themselves into.
