Fully agree. DeviantArt worked in a way that curated both individual gallery spaces (your profile) and collaborative galleries (groups) based on certain themes, which was amazing for building community.
Now, art is only profitable aesthetics. Canβt believe capitalism took community out of artβ¦
your oc having sex that furthers the plot
"your characters can dislike or hate other characters and it doesn't have to reflect on you as a writer" is true and a good point but i do think also has to be balanced with "people blur the line between oc and self-insert a lot and often use the veneer of a character to bash other people's tastes"
Halmarut from FFXIV on a dark red/brown background. She is holding the plush form of Calyx in her arms.
I drew a portrait of Halmarut and (merchandisable) Calyx! I really enjoy Halmarut's design π₯°
I'm really excited to see what they do with these two going forward! #FFXIV #FFXIVArt #7.4spoilers
Lovey-dovey Evariste tops a blissed-out Lucanis from the side in a sweetly intimate illustration, drawn and shaded in peachy monotones.
in a reverse of the prior illustration, a hardworking Lucanis tops a blushy Evariste from the bottom. because of their size difference, only the top of Lucanis's head (sweat beading along his iconic hairline) is visible over Evariste's shoulder. There are tiny hearts indicating expressions of loving effort from both of them.

Healer: Sage is technically her main but she practices all of them.
Magical DPS: Pictomancer
Ranged DPS: Bard (but she's shy about peforming in public!)
Melee DPS/Tank: Fake Reaper/Warrior aka farm girl/botanist who can do some damage with a scythe or an axe in a pinch!
Ariane's starting concept was something vaguely wood elf and I liked green eyes for that. Her hair is... basically the same color as mine.
I'm bad at remembering to post fic here, oops. Anywhere, we're up to the halfway point with Chapter 8 of Harsh Light!

I may delete this because itβs a bit spicy but it shouldnβt be lost on us that games being turned into TV is essentially harvesting the stories written by those who donβt have union representation or healthcare with WGA by those that do. Our stories are good enough for TV but the writers arenβt?
My hot take is that HW/SB Thancred was a more visually interesting - and most Final Fantasy looking - design for him, and if he had to change, he should have looked more disheveled and unkempt in Shadowbringers.
Being Good at Video Game is not a moral issue. Struggling with any of the many granular skills that video games require to the point that they frustrate you does not mean you are stupid or lack media comprehension.
This fandom could really stand to learn that.
You can be excited about what a game segment did from a storytelling perspective without being an asshole to people who struggle with gameplay.
At heart a game is still supposed to enjoyable on some level even when it's difficult, even when being difficult is the point. IFTC was that for a lot of players. It clearly also wasn't that for some.
Why does that make you angry?
sighs
I don't think "In From the Cold" is bad; I think it does some really interesting stuff thematically; however, I dislike the way fans defending it often slide into disdain for players who struggle with the gameplay to the point that it takes them out of the story.
I do think the audience for fic exists btw, this isn't me complaining about a lack of engagement with my own work (I am content w/ that and appreciate my readers v much β€οΈ), but just... a general trend of maybe-unconscious assumptions I see day-to-day of gpose as default type of fan engagement.
Nearly every event centers gposing with other fanworks as at best an afterthought.
I'm afraid that if I post this on tumblr people are going to take it really personally (and it's not meant that way), but even as someone who enjoys gposing, the way XIV fandom centers gposing above all else is kind of exhausting sometimes.

From a never-commenter it just tells me my work wasn't worth a moment of your time to tell me you were enjoying it until you could correct me.
I don't expect or demand comments, but if you were determined keep silent thus far, perhaps you should have continued.
There are longtime commenters and trusted friends I'd be fine with receiving an unsolicited correction from, especially if it's correct (and this one was, in their defense).
Having the first comment on my latest chapter be a grammatical correction from someone who so far as I can tell has never so much as hit the like or kudos button on a previous chapter but assures me as a preface to the correction that they have been looking forward to the updates.
