lots of people surprised that Nintendo added telemetry ("spyware") to FRLG, but they've been adding it to their games since 2017 lol
for example: Breath of the Wild is packed with telemetry for things like game progress, where players die and how, popularity of settings, etc
meanwhile, Digital Extremes is still waiting for a Switch 2 devkit so they can upgrade Warframe (a game that is currently averaging 50,000 players per day on Steam)

how the heck is Nintendo is prioritizing who gets Switch 2 devkits
the campfire game from the Direct is made by Oink Games, a company primarily known for making board games
they have made some video games but none of them are super popular

I sure hope Nintendo is going to replace this and Gold Points with something else...
the optics of this aren't great, especially since it's right off the heels of the Switch 2 game pricing fiasco

interesting, Chris Meledandri (Illumination CEO) only got 75% approval from shareholders for re-election to Nintendo's board of directors
all the other directors were elected with 90%+ approval (and last year, Meledandri also received 94% approval)
wonder what changed?

honestly I personally quite like the intermissions
but I do think that an option for standard 3 lap lobbies should be added so that people who don't like them can have fun too
a Nintendo employee, 8 years ago: "In Japan, there’s a sense of, 'We’re making this thing for you, and this is how we think this thing is better enjoyed.'"
thought this quote was especially relevant with recent events

very happy with the Switch 2 so far, it's basically everything I wanted from a next-gen Switch
can't wait to see the upcoming first party and third party games
also hoping for more upgrades/upgrades for Switch 1 titles, because some really need it
tomorrow is the Splatoon series' 10th anniversary, so I wonder if they're planning something special
a JIT recompiler would let ROMs "just work", but the Switch 1 probably doesn't have the horsepower to run it very well, hence the Switch 2 exclusivity
(for comparison, afaik Dolphin's JIT recompiler doesn't run very well on the Switch 1 without underclocking the emulated CPU)
Super Mario Sunshine ran using ahead-of-time recompilation for the executable
meanwhile Super Mario Galaxy, Pikmin 1, and Pikmin 2 were all recompiled from their source code to run on the Switch CPU with a shim that forwards the game's SDK calls to the emulator directly (iirc)

I highly suspect that the reason GC emulation is Switch 2 exclusive is that the hardware allows their emulator (Hagi) to directly run ROMs without prior work
Super Mario Sunshine and Pikmin 1+2 required substantial work for each game on the CPU side before they could run

the Switch 2 reveal was kinda anti-climactic imo lol
but I think that's just because the hardware is about what I expect from a 2nd gen device, and there was only one game announced
I'm significantly more interested in the software, so can't wait for the Switch 2 Direct in Apr
where's the rooftop party Nintendo
currently testing video upload on my cross-poster, so have a clip of me winning in F-ZERO 99
I love trying to figure out what Japanese abbreviations for things are supposed to be
earlier I was looking at some comments about ゲースロ and I was like "wtf is that" for 5 minutes until I realized
Game of Thrones (ゲームオブスローンズ)
I died more times on the fake final boss than the legitimate one, so I think there's something off with the balance
but either way, ZM is a great game overall, though maybe not my favourite 2D Metroid
that honor would go to Super or Dread
finished Metroid: Zero Mission!
the first 90% was excellent, just classic 2D Metroid gameplay
then the stealth section started! felt novel at first, but I was not a fan after like 2 minutes
also, the final boss was way too easy... I killed it in ~5 hits with Super Missiles
[EXTREMELY LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER]
the best way to enjoy the game awards is to go to sleep for 3 hours, wake up after it’s done, and then see if anything you care about was announced
I think Nintendo is aiming to release one "big" soundtrack on Nintendo Music at the start of each month, and then fill the rest of the month out with "small" ones?
we got SMBW (Nov) and Splatoon 2 (Dec) as our big soundtracks, and smaller games in between

I really think that the current SplatoonNA translator has confused the JP name for the Triumvirate (オカシラ連合, "a union of bosses") for "Boss Salmonids"
this is now the second tweet where "Boss Salmonids" replaces parts where the original JP text talks about the Triumvirate

I love when non-gamer authors try to write gen z/alpha characters that play Fortnite
for one, they always spell it as Fortnight
sometimes they also try to describe the character playing it, and it becomes very obvious that they have no idea how Fortnite is actually played lol
the difference in the reactions to Nintendo Music between the Japanese and Western fans is interesting
people over here have lots of complaints, like "why not Spotify", "credit your composers", etc
meanwhile, the JP fans are super positive and happy (from what I've seen)
so how much money do we want to bet that this guy is no longer in the United States

I wish book sites listed length in terms of word count rather than number of pages
I'm all in on ebooks nowadays, and with ebooks, the page count can vary wildly depending on the font, screen size, etc
word count is a much more reliable way to gauge a work's length imo
to me, the alarm clock just reinforces the idea that Nintendo does whatever the fuck they want lmfao
they'll pull out Switch 2 at the most random ass time and it will blindside everyone

at a store in Japan: fake gift cards for "PC Virus & Trojan Horse Removal" and "Late Payment Fee" - when someone brings the card to the cashier, they will inform the person that they're being scammed
this is a good idea, more places should do this
