The praise for Ottawa's LRT improving turned ironic fast, since the line is indefinitely incapable of running full peak service because around two-thirds of the entire fleet is out of service from design defects.

And if you do spend years refining the "perfect" thing, that doesn't even mean it will be "good" because you've probably gotten so lost in your own head you may have lost sight of what it actually needs, while neglecting technical foundations you would otherwise learning by doing more things.
Perfect is always the enemy of good.
You can spend years endlessly refining the same thing, chasing the impossible dream of perfection. Or in the same time you could have put out any number of projects, each giving valuable insight on how to improve the next one.
Even if the problem was exclusively the tracks, it's not like tearing them all up to accommodate the existing trains was ever going to realistically be the solution.
Regardless of whether the problem is the rail or the train it's been almost five years since the need for a redesign of the wheel assembly was identified, yet it feels like we're no closer to getting a resolution to that.
Every time we getting used to a level of service from the LRT, they announce they are once again reducing its promised service "temporarily".
They can't even seem to decide whether the problem is that the wheels are not suitable for the track or that the track is not suitable for the wheels
They want to be taken seriously as opposition but also they don't want to say anything too strong because they're afraid of mean comments on Twitter
Videos so exclusively about games and nothing else, like last year's "Fantasies of Nuremberg". No political or controversial topics in those videos.
I don't think I've ever lost enthusiasm on something that's at the perfect intersection of my nerdy interests as fast as I did when I looked up the prices on the Lego Pokemon announcement. Absolute madness.
Also, canonically, the entire reason they're villains is because the abandoned the truth of the one true god - who is shown to exist - to embrace fire and brimstone, with the most "atheist in a Christian movie" origin story.
I almost wouldn't be shocked if Cameron made a cult out of this.
I think my enjoyment of these movies is almost inversely proportional to how much they resemble real cultures.
Alien culture unlike anything we've seen? Cool worldbuilding.
Fire people behaving like the stereotype of the "godless Indian savage"? Very uncomfortable in the theatre.

Today in unusual #Ottawa finds: A pocket-sized #OCTranspo map from October 2019, right after the opening of Line 1.
It's just infrastructure, what's the worst that can happen if we let it rot for another decade? We can save so much money if we pretend our problems don't exist!
"Rude" is such a weird one for a hide by default because that could mean anything from "said something kinda mean" to "bigoted harassment that we didn't want to flag as discriminatory because that label would upset the bigots"
Cover of the 2025 Publishing Derby book "Blood Upon the Wind", written by myself under the pen name "Nora Gibson"
Since Publishing Derby is over, I can finally reveal my entry for this year:
Blood Upon the Wind is a historical fantasy murder mystery. A killer vampire is on the loose and the only one that can stop them is a strange detective who is not what he seems.
I'll be relaunching this fall so stay tuned!
This exchange is one of the most embarrassing CEO posts I've ever seen. And that other platform's guy exists.
"On-street parking, except at very specific times" is in practice just "on-steeet parking full-time, unless you bring an army of tow trucks in."
It only takes one bad driver to stop making it a transit lane.
It's book launch day for the 2025 Publishing Derby! Check out the 30+ books published this year, one of which may or may not be mine.

This is the same guy who wrote an essay about how the Rwandan genocide was fabricated to make Canada look good, so the credibility bar is already low.
But also, if it's not him, failing to claim your name on a major social media platform as a political candidate is really dropping the ball.
I don't really have a point to make on this one it's just an interesting visual metaphor
A Canadian government office during Pride week in Ottawa, with a freshly painted Pride crosswalk and a very large pride flag hanging from the upper floors of the building. Two flagpoles have a Canadian flag and a pride flag flown on them, respectively.
The same office building during Pride a year later. The giant pride flag is missing, and the pride crosswalk is worn and faded. The grass is now yellow and withered.
One Year Later #ottawa #pride
Since I'm already being controversial today...
With Pride in Ottawa coming up next week, for those who boycotted Capital Pride 2024 and feel bold enough to show up this year: you may want to forget what you did, but some of us still remember. #ottawa
Iβm back! I saw your messages on here & elsewhereβthank you all <3. Iβm deeply disappointed in @bsky.app moderation; equating pushback against people like JKR with the harm they cause to trans ppl only enables more violence. Iβll talk more soon but even a day away from social media has been healthy.
I also wish on transphobes all the harm they inflict on us.
Bring back Jessie Gender!
Transphobes are not welcome here.
If it's any small consolation, I found it so impactful I was already in tears before I finished the introduction

Excuse me while I go digging for my 3DS
...The good news is my 3DS is fine. The bad news is I found an old phone that was absolutely not. (You could smell the leaking fumes)
The more articles I see about Bluesky, the more it feels like an industry psyop because they see a site being moderately successful while having basic tools for limiting hate speech, and seethe at the notion someone could exist happily without constantly debating fascists.
