Not impressed. The classic is far superior

Grape vines on the back fence
Table grapes. August picking
One of the negative consequences of redoing the house was that we had to cut down the very productive grape vines in the backyard. It took a while…but grapes are back! New vines are not yet as productive as the old vines but we’ll get there.
Bread … it’s what’s for dinner
Big day for baking. 8 loaves, 3 different recipes. Two football games (Tottenham 👍, Dortmund 👎). Very nice grilled cheese sandy for lunch. Productive.
It starts with great collaborators. Vitally important!
Concept2 rower screen showing lifetime meters.
1,000,000 meters. Feeling good! Started 25 June 2024
Sourdough bread loaves
Planning for my electric vehicle future! I think this is a great idea, no frills with easy aftermarket modifications Daugher customized this one www.slate.auto/share/1FAK3J
The beach at Fort Funston
California beach day. First time seeing fog ON the beach.
3 loaves of sourdough bread
An assortment of knives, post sharpening.
Spent the day sharpening the collection of knives from the charter school’s cooking seminars. Some really dull ones in there!
Congratulations. And huge respect for sharing it with the people that helped along the journey
This Dortmund team is so embarrassing (champions league aside)
Big basket of lemons.
Harvested 43 lbs of lemons from our tree. Already made lemonade and lemon ice cream. Lots of lemons left.
Sourdough sandwich bread. Could be more sour and more open crumb but good start
It’s almost unspeakable what brutality and torture humans can inflict on others. The depth and expansiveness of the systems for facilitating brutality seem to have no limits. Heartbreaking www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
Tough year to follow both Dortmund and Tottenham. Not many silver linings
Tahoe prep
Weekend test of the regular oven with Dutch oven (left) and steam oven (no dutch oven, right).
Trailer image from Fireboys. HBO Max documentary on juvenile offenders training to work with Cal Fire.
Documentary on juvenile offenders training to work with Cal Fire @hbomax.bsky.social. It's complicated - not sure how I feel about the minimal training, lower wages, and limited prospects upon release. It does get them out of lockup and into an active situation where they can achieve something.
Dogpatch is still the most interesting part of SF. Even with all the growth and development seeing the vestiges of SF’s more industrial past is neat (and bay views!)
Side of one of the new electric Caltrain cars
Finally rode the new electric @gocaltrain.bsky.social up to SF. Great experience! Quiet ride, quiet on the stations, clean, WiFi.
Completed construction of the Block Tech micro blocks model of the Leaning Tower of Pisa
With the tiny pieces and the tiny pictures in the low quality instructions this was a real challenge. Not like easy-peazy Lego sets. Saw these sets all over NYC (Museum of Natural History, Met, most souvenir shops) - glad to have a chance to try it. Thanks Lexi!
Cover of Henry Hemming’s nonfiction book _Four Shots in the Night_ about the roles of British assets in the IRA during the Troubles
Good history of the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Focused on British assets within the IRA - their effects on the Troubles and peace process, and who was responsible - both during the Troubles but also 20 years later. How to judge/justify illegal activity (and tacit encouragement) after the peace
Really good @newyorker.com profile (www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...)
NYC pizza scores from recent trip (score 1-10, 10 being unattainable perfection [scores from eatthisny.com/pizza-pizza/...)
Mama’s Too 8.5 [8.5]
Filaga (Chelsea Market) 8
Nitti’s (not really a pizza place) 6
Prince Street Pizza 6.5 (opened 30’ later than advertised) [8]
+ Balthazar way overrated
15.5 ton iron meteorite at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City
Just a little 15.5 ton iron meteorite. Maybe from the iron/nickel core of any early protoplanet. Interesting - only 600 of the 25,000 meteorites found on earth are iron. Great rainy day at the @natural-history.bsky.social
