Nor does everyone have to do it. There is no moral high ground in having subjected yourself to such conditions.

One of the more alienating parts of having been a social worker for so long is witnessing the material realities of abject poverty, child abuse, addiction etc the people whom you'd assume would be on your side liberals leftists etc are completely unwilling to understand what it materially looks like
