So if using AI actually does erode human cognition the way studies suggest, then it's a feature instead of a bug?
The world is gross enough without "take away people's ability to think so we can sell it back to them" being on the list.

Did he not get ate by a shark?
If you're not challenging yourself you are not 'maximising' anything. If you smooth all the edges, you get no friction. Friction, in this sense, is what makes us think. What challenges us. Holds the world in a different light for us to examine.
βThere is more than one way to burn a book. And the world is full of people running about with lit matches.β

I know I'm like an indie band chart outlier who only has that one hit they keep playing to remind people they're still around, but I don't think enough people realise this: That you can broadly choose not to engage with AI.
Anyway, your parents might remember this one -- ONE... TWO... ONETWOTHREEF
Just started playing PokΓ©mon for the first time. When do I get to eat them?
Cover of Blue Period vol. 8 manga
A character with his back to us paints on a giant canvas.
Comics I'm reading: Blue Period vol. 8 by Yamaguchi. A relatively weak volume does nothing to diminish my love for the series. It's about art and discovering yourself as an artist. It's about the joys and struggles of a creative life. It's about wonder and learning and I couldn't love it more.
Main character, with his skin peeled off to reveal he is a robot. Fist pulled back to punch. Dilaogue reads: I'm a normal guy.
Comics I'm reading: Hard Boiled (1992) by Miller/Darrow. All style, but what style. Darrow paints a masterpiece of chaotic, kinetic, funny storytelling over Miller's atmospheric sketch of a story. Both do good work, but this is Darrow's showcase and he makes it shine. I loved it.
The storytelling isn't a match for the best manga out there, but there's no shame in that when the likes of Fujimoto and Shirahama are setting the bar so absurdly high.
Panel from Boys run the Riot featuring the main character.
Tw panels from Boys run the riot featuring a conversation between the two main characters.
Comics I'm reading: Boys Run The Riot vol. 1. I love these characters and the journey they're on. This is beautiful, heartfelt stuff, following a trans character as the find a way to express themselves and to be themselves.

Who would let a dog play basketball in a world like this?
Telling Jesus he'll never make it if he keeps being so hostile to wealth. Advising him to moderate his message to appeal to the Galilee suburbs
One of the reasons I distrust GenAI is that I've been doing tech support in one form or another for 35+ years, and I've seen every way that tech can be misused, break, or behave outside of expectations; GenAI ticks every 'uh-oh' box for me.
a black and white edit that reads "the future includes trans people". around the text is a floral pattern. the image is grainy
the future is for trans people
*gently poking the social contract with a stick* hey are you okay
Yeah, it's incredibly how much great manga is accessible right now compared to even 10 years ago. I'm finding more and more of my own reading to be manga - not on purpose, but there's so much great stories and brilliant storytelling there, and again, such a variety of genres and types.
Whereas Marvel/DC offer literally one genre, and kids can get that through the films/TV. And manga has genres specifically targeted at kids of different ages, and at girls as well.
In the ten years I've been doing comic-making workshops, the number of kids actually reading Marvel/DC comics has declined every year, with manga taking their place.
I think a huge thing with manga is what it offers kids - comics about sports, romance, fantasy, magic, humour, horror, video games.
Comics I'm reading: Hard Boiled (1992) by Miller/Darrow. All style, but what style. Darrow hangs a masterpiece of chaotic, kinetic, funny storytelling on Miller's atmospheric sketch of a story. Both do good work, but this is Darrow's showcase and he makes it shine. I loved it.
This is fucking horrifying.
And I really hope those who have been referring to trans rights as βpurity politicsβ or βwanting a ponyβ are paying fucking attention.
Trans rights are not up for debate, nor are they up for negotiation as part of some electoral strategy.
The craft and storytelling isn't a match for the best manga out there, but there's no shame in that - Manga is producing some of the best storytelling you will find in any comics right now, with the likes of Fujimoto and Shirahama settting the bar.

New @robwilliams71.bsky.social Dredd is always something to look forward to. His stories are relevant and modern, without ever straying from the foundations of what makes the strip great - if anything, he has revitalised those fundamentals.
PUT IT BACK!
Every single comics con/festival/fair should have an anti-AI policy front and centre now. Basic ethics.
Consequence for politicians. I wonder what that feels like?
This is cool. Western comics are still dominated by capes and IP and comics can be so much more than that.
Being neutral between fascism & democracy, is actually supporting fascism.
