Saturday's #PastProtestForPresentStrength Dr Max! She sheltered, saved children during Nazi occupation of Utrecht. A tulip tribute to her bursting into bloom on street where she lived. Walked by and felt inspired.

Snapshot of our moment from my desk: Historians routinely prefacing emails and publication updates with "I know the world is falling apart/we are in a time of crisis but"

= 'Interesting Times' (Terry Pratchett RIP) and it sucks. Rather teach it than live it. Vote, donate, witness, rinse, repeat...

We LOVED reading this out loud with our kids, and taking turns. Much joking over which partner did it more justice (mum has better voices, dad doesn't mess with the text.) Kids were exmpt from critique.

Everything is terrifying, but am writing with former student on how folk have been terrified and held on and fought back before - anti-racist French rap and its genealogy in French poetry and resistance - goes back centuries. An opening to courage #RendreACésaire #Blackout #Toussaint

Excited to read this - teach Fela Kuti most years - always a rich discussion of his complexity - and connection to pan-African circuits of knowledge - move through music, as well as political, activist and writerly networks. Fela part of creating and preserving braided knowledges, knowledge-making.

Too many non-academic posts. I'm forgetting what this account is for!

To atone: Le Corbusier had 2 complaints about his brand new fancy building in Marseille: the 2nd was the poisonous smoke making everyone ill (ch 1 of my book), but the FIRST was that tourists were banging al fresco on the roof.

Our family caught up in this. Fought back just in time, not realising bigger picture, thinking we'd erred (immigrants, new system)

Shock of receiving govt bill, 20,000 for pre-approved childcare benefit = extreme. Stress huge - even with education, privilege of whiteness, resources to demand info

Fort Nassau in Ghana (left), by Hans Propheet in 1629. Established following a treaty with the Asebu in 1612, the fort came under control of the Dutch West India Company in 1624. This WIC map of 1650 (right) emphasised Dutch occupation of Brazil, for which slaves from Fort Nassau were trafficked.
