The Teacher’s strike would be over tomorrow if the UCP offered the same contract the United Nurses of Alberta signed or if they agreed to binding arbitration.

The Notwithstanding Clause is a nuclear level hammer with the long range consequence of saying the UCP doesn’t negotiate, they legislate.

I’ve been in academic medicine for 45 years. This is the first time I’m seeing a perfect storm, as proposed federal funding cuts threaten our ability to provide patient care, train the next generation of doctors, and conduct life-saving research. More from my conversation with @cnn.com last week.

Ages 0-4 are the most important, emotionally & intellectually, in human development.

Yet, in the US, we have a very high rate of childhood poverty and a broken child care system.

Congratulations to New Mexico for leading the way forward for high quality, free child care. Other states must follow.

Danielle Smith is playing fast and loose with the future of the country. It seems like a long shot that Alberta would vote to leave, but who knows what happens once you start down this path. It’s a live-ammo outing now.

Utter insanity.

Things that have extended the average lifespan of working people:
Unions
Healthcare (through unions, Medicare and Medicaid)
Universal public education
Labor laws
Environmental regulations
Social Security

If you seek to undermine all of these, what is your underlying objective?

As a #Canadian, I have several feelings.
1) I feel deep relief that a good chunk of my fellow Canadians aren't complete disappointments.
2) Gratitude for voters that care about other humans showing up to vote for that.
3) danielle smith has lost some of her back up

Smith was directly asked today if her new plan for surgeries in Alberta would gut the public system and allow access to public facilities for private for profit operators...

Her response?

"Mmmhm"

No.

More evidence that private for profit surgeries make things worse

“[Private surgical facilities] bled funding and a finite pool of critical staff from the public system, increasing wait times for cancer and other priority surgeries.”

The "trust us, it's going to be great" isn't good enough for me with this government. Show me your work.

We don't even have basic quality and safety data for surgeries performed in for-profit CSFs. Physicians tell me that there is an active effort to prevent data collection in for-profits.

Alberta to tie hospital funding to number, type of procedures performed | CBC News Alberta's government will soon tie public hospital funding to the number and type of procedures performed, a move critics warn won't improve the public system and will only accelerate private delivery...

The picture comes into focus

AB gov took ownership of public hospitals from AHS so these public assets can be used by private surgeons’ corporations under new funding model

Public assets in the service of private profits

This will only destabilize hospitals further

If I were Wab Kinew or David Eby, I'd be working very hard to recruit #Alberta HCWs. NONE of us signed up to practice the way @daniellesmithab.bsky.social is forcing acute care to be. She is 10000% ensuring hospitals fail but she is also actively about to cause a physician crisis. Greed is gross.
