I sorta neglected to talk much about videos last year so I thought this year I ought to include stuff that leaves a strong impression on me or I feel is worth sharing. Jon Bois is always great at making unfamiliar topics really engaging and entertaining.

I'm excited to delve more into Precure! Not only am I still slowly working through Hirogaru Sky (which continues to be fantastic) but I'm following along with Star Detective! I'm falling down the Precure rabbit hole.

-trying to stuff it all into those final two episodes. It's a shame because there really could've been something there. All that said, I'm still glad I dove in and watched it through to the end. Despite my disinterest in idols as a framework/motif, it was still a fun time thanks to its characters.

-like she's barely there until suddenly, she has a whole arc in the span of two episodes that just really doesn't feel like it has time to breathe. This could've been solved if the episodes leading up to the finale just used their time more to explore what was going on with Darkine rather than-

-the back half was nearly as memorable as the front. This is especially apparent with how rushed the season's climax and finale feel. Chokkirine feels like someone they could've done more with but she's just kinda removed from the plot, and despite looming throughout the series, Darkine feels-

But I gotta say, the back half of the season felt like it kind of lost its footing. There were some great weeklies like the student council president episode and Nana having to decide if she wanted to move to France, but overall I don't think-

The yaoi arc with Kaito and Jogi was also a fun time, even if I wasn't so big on the Uta ship-teasing with Kaito, who I always felt worked better as a mentor figure for her than a love interest. Also there were some great songs here with the idol finishers, and special shoutout to Trio Dreams.

-genuinely unhealthy behavior and attitudes, slowly grow into someone who has to confront herself, and how she finds acceptance in the friends she made along the way... it's really good. We stan Cure Kiss for sure. Even if she's hopelessly in love with someone who doesn't know what romance is.

My fave was Nana, Kokoro resonated with me in certain ways, but in terms of seeing a whole character arc, Meroron was absolutely the star of the show. Seeing someone so lonesome grow attached solely to one person, struggling to accept her desire to form friendships beyond that, someone with some-

The first half of the series is without a doubt a fun time, with great weekly episodes like Nana Being Silly and the mother's day episode as well as a fun ongoing storyline as we see Cutty become a huge fan of the idols and then of course, the mid-season introduction of ZukyoonKiss.

KIMI TO IDOL PRECURE
My first Precure season! I talked about it a bit in my year-end wrap-up thread, and with all caveats aside, the series is a delight that brings joy and whimsy to my heart. It makes me feel Kirakilala! I'm so glad I finally got into Precure and this was fun as my first.

Anyway it's one I definitely recommend! I hardly talked about the art-style at all but the spritework is incredible and it's just a delight to play through.

The only big criticism I have with the writing is that the villains feel a little bit one-note, though having their leader driven by the desire to expand profits at the cost of ecological disaster (or in this case, actively using said disaster to accomplish it) does hit a bit close to real-life.

-on a specific type so much as a specific theme, such as industry or dance or clairvoyance, and there being a couple types that are tied to that. New Megas are fun - often I feel hesitant about fanmade megas but this one does a really good job with fun designs.

Donating mons to the zoo and seeing it repopulated is really cute and satisfying, I loved just seeing a Totodile I donated hanging out on the beach. The region itself feels very alive, with every town having grass and mons roaming around in the wild, and I appreciate that gym leaders aren't based-

The game focuses on themes of conservation, naturalism, ecology, and co-existence with the world around us and the life beyond just humans. That's something Pokemon is kinda predisposed to exploring but I like the way the region itself is set-up to explore it, especially with the zoo quest.

-casually, still on the harder difficulty but letting myself build a team and catch mons freely as normal. It was definitely worth taking that approach. I heard from a friend that the creator used their real world experience and research as part of the story and worldbuilding, which is really neat.
