I was happy with 35mm until I got my Leica M3, then started using that massive TTArtisan 50mm, things were good for a few years, and then I thought maybe I give 40mm a try. So far not bad, but I gotta give it more time

I think the AF-D version is good too, but AI-S is better for manual focus and like you said it feels better
