Incredibly insightful coverage by @asamnews.bsky.social of our efforts to ban new detention centers here locally and our tragic history of the internment of Japanese Americans.

Joined my ST board colleagues for a light rail tour covering West Seattle, downtown, SODO, Chinatown/ID, lower Queen Anne, Interbay and Ballard. Our neighborhoods shouldnβt feel worlds apart, and light rail will help build our regionβs connectedness.

I applaud Mayor Ralph and the Kent City Council joining the effort to protect the health and safety of our residents by saying our land should go to support the publicβs wellbeing, detention centers harm it.
Weβre keeping the momentum going this morning as we UNANIMOUSLY passed an ordinance out of committee today, making clear that county land that is also not open to the general public cannot be used for civil immigration enforcement! More to come!
βWhen our neighbors are afraid to seek medical care, shop for groceries, or send their children to school, they bear the immediate harmβ¦ and our communities lose the trust, connection, and stability that allow us all to thrive.β

Thanks @komo4.bsky.social for covering the legislation that just passed at the council prohibiting new detention facilities in the county.
Thanks to @knkx.org for tuning in to the work we did at council today banning new detention facilities.
Thank you to @king5news.com.web.brid.gy for their coverage of the just passed legislation banning new detention centers in King County.
That is a violation of our countyβs values. β
βDetention facilities disrupt and destroy the fabric of our communities. With the detention facility comes additional agents and fewer people seeking health and safety from local law enforcement , fewer people getting their medical care needs met, kiddos missing days of school.

Thank you @kuow.org for covering this just passed legislation banning new detention facilities in King County.
βThe land-use regulations that the council has, our local government authorities, allow for us to protect the health and safety of community residents. We want to protect against these new facilities from coming into place here.β

Thank you @seattletimes-rss.bsky.social for covering this important legislation banning new detention centers in King County.
Council passed Mosquedaβs emergency ban on Detention Centers. King Countyβs land and resources should be used to support the health, safety, and well-being of our communities - not to build systems that isolate, intimidate and harm the very people who make our region strong. Detention facilities are being used to disappear our friends, family, and community members into inhumane conditions, often without due process - and they also carry serious consequences for the health and safety of surrounding neighborhoods. When our neighbors are afraid to seek medical care, shop for groceries, or send their children to school, they bear the immediate harm - and our communities lose the trust, connection, and stability that allow us all to thrive.
KCC just passed my moratorium on new detention centers. Thank you to council colleagues who co-sponsored and supported the legislation. Full press release here: kingcounty.gov/dept/council...
Our HHHS Committee just passed my motion supporting entheogen therapy. Allowing individuals and their providers to make the decisions about what their healing looks like is a proven piece in addressing conditions like ptsd. Thank you to the community supporters who helped make this happen.
This weekend my office joined Africatown Community Land Trust for the 2026 State of Africatown. The theme was βfrom harm to repairβ. As we work to build a region that has ample housing for all, we canβt forget those already displaced and institute pathways for their return.
No to war with Iran!
No to continued imperialist acts of aggression. No to death and destruction. Not in our names. We wonβt be complicit, we wonβt be compliant, we wonβt be silent.
We say No!
No to unprovoked acts of aggression and war on sovereign nations, on kids in schools.
We say No!
Glad to be able to join @mayorofseattle.bsky.social and International Community Health Services CEO Kelli Nomura for their 2nd Annual Healthcare for All Benefit. ICHS provides vital care to the community and this event is just one way they build the resources to support that work.

I applaud Tukwila Mayor and City Council on their unanimous vote passing a moratorium on ICE detention facilities being built or expanded in their jurisdiction. This is consistent w/ what Iβm bringing forward to impose a moratorium for areas in UKC. We can keep #ICEOUT
We rely on our letter carriers to keep us connected to each other. They shouldnβt have to fight like hell for a contract that invests in them but they will and Iβm standing with them. First class service deserves first class wages and benefits. @lettercarriers.bsky.social @wslc.bsky.social
Thank you Jimmy Matta for inviting me to share the work Iβve been doing to support WMBE with the NW Minority Builders Alliance. Public dollars should go to the public good & the County needs to work with high road actors like the folks in this room, who are investing back into their communities.

This is why we must prevent more private for-profit detention centers from coming into our communities. Legislation forthcoming to prevent more detention facilities in King County land! @theurbanist.org

I am saddened by the passing of beloved Vashon fixture Dr. Steve Nourse. His kindness and generosity were abundant and he went out of his way to help me learn about the Island as I stepped into my role at the County. My thoughts and love are with his family.
