The cover of a book called The Birding Dictionary: A Tongue-in-cheek guide for people who find themselves obsessed, against all logic and reason, with birds, with a quote from David Sibley that says "Best. Dictionary. Ever" and a drawing of a Vermilion Flycatcher pooping on a pair of binoculars.

Do you like birds? My new book THE BIRDING DICTIONARY is out today wherever you buy books! This little book is deeply silly and full of love, and I hope you'll laugh and maybe enjoy an obscure fact or two.

All kinds of wildlife situations are reported to Wildlife Rescue, this is one of the more unusual cases! 🦆

This Mallard seemed to have a stick impaled in his side. We had prepared to send him for surgery but the medical team found the stick was actually stuck around him, like a harness!

If you're in the Great Lakes area (Canada or US) and you've got some volunteer time to identify and count #birds and/or #amphibians, the Marsh Monitoring Program needs you! Sign up in Feb for monitoring in the spring www.birdscanada.org/gl_mmp

Hard to say: maybe seeing my first wild Snowy Owl and my first wild American Pelicans. Last spring 4 lifers in 4 minutes with rock wren, canyon wren, chukar and Brewers Sparrow - always Orcas and the first twin baby sandhill cranes that both grew up under my watch 🥰.

#CBC #christmasbirdcount2024 finished first Christmas Bird Count of the season. Whopping 86 species in my area in Ladner/Delta BC. Best result for a long time. Nothing super crazy but a great variety.
