My understanding is the type of skinner box principles intentionally designed into gambling, Farmville, lootboxes etc. instill clinically self-destructive compulsive behavior. "Addiction" has had a lot of its meaning wrung out to put a harder edge on things that are more accurately compulsions.

I don't believe he has any reason to make a show of desecrating symbols of things that are unanimously popular with his own base. It would harm his careful attempt to depict American traditionalism as unquestionably righteous and invulnerable. I think this is just what construction looks like

The current administration is absolutely using that strategy like the deletion of online memorials to some American women, but I don't think this is that.
Trump's rhetoric ascribes a religious admiration of colonial America, and the white house is a symbol of that.
