This is from The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson aired on May 20th, 1977.
Carl Sagan says something very important, a strong message that didn't lose any validity since then.

I stoped by Rector Street on the way home today to see @mta.infoβs digital signage testbed.
The lettered line arrival screens and LCD displays have new synchronized displays with a cleaner, more accurate data. These look great! Clearly some @wmata.com influence here.
Yeah, we struggled to get operators to buy-in to headway management v. schedule. There are still underlying timetables so there was a desire to be on-time. And (a number of year ago) it was hard to derive KPIs to show operators a "teamwork" score v. on-time %.
I thought they did as well but I know they were piloting Clever Devices around that same time. I used to work for an agency that used Clever Devices and the MTA BusTime interface is the same. Ditto for WAMATA who uses Clever.
The screen used to have a different - much more boring - interface. But the product is what runs next stop announcements and BusTime so it has been installed for a while.
