This is, honestly, kind of tying back into one of my perennial fascinations, that because of the nature of open-ended storytelling, Star Wars canon has TWICE now become a deeply pessimistic story of civilizational collapse, and yet very few creators seem to understand that.

I believe in my heart of hearts that most people start out like this: unashamedly passionate and in love with a thing or two. Then someone comes along and make them feel bad about it. And they stop. They become quiet and gray on the inside. I also believe that those responsible for this go to hell.
Conservatives get irrationally angry about ambiguous/morally-gray villains in fiction because their brains are the size of walnuts. They operate on children logic. "Good guy stop bad guy" is peak storytelling to them. Anything more complex and they start to smell toast as their brains start to cook.
