PPP is cope, especially in this instance IMO. Nominal GDP more accurately describes educational and cultural differences than raw output, to say nothing of wartime trade relations.
I don’t think we’ve talked to many in-Iran Iranians, we’ve primarily spoken to angry expats who make up a minority akin to US expats in other countries.
This is honestly seemingly propaganda. It appears that whatever 10-20% libs in Iran have been decisively gunned down without a popular uprising, and the rest have been incensed by mass bombing campaigns into supporting the regime harder, not polarizing against it at its weakest point.

For reference Germany in 1939 had $411B GDP to the combined Franco-British GDP of $486B, but the Franco-British was tied up in colonial enterprises.
Russia had around 9x the GDP of Ukraine in 2021. America has around 72x the GDP of Iran. I know people hate on GDP but it has really been a great measurement of relative capabilities in wartime. For reference, the US had a 44x higher GDP than Iraq in 2003.
There is the ‘surrender/deal with the devil’ version where we embargo/sanction Israel, pull our troops out of the Middle East, and pay massive restitutions/cease all sanction on Iran

They basically let the Americans bomb them for a long time in a polite, diplomatic way including deliberately missing critical targets in their retaliations with forewarning. Then Trump killed all their leaders mid negotiations and set off a war of vengeance.
As we know striking uncamouflaged cargo and asw patrol aircraft on tarmacs instead of, say, tons of small F-5E derivatives is a sign of an air war being won

Since the end of Korea the US hasn’t ever really built a military to win a conflict except for ~1983-1991 when it was built up to defeat the Soviets conventionally, but since 1991 it has essentially had no strategic purpose other than deterrence of nebulous threats
When you start to understand the US military as more of a graft machine that drops bombs and spends lots of money without accomplishing a mission it begins to make more sense. Prior to Korea the US specifically built its armies to threats and deliberately let it collapse to cadre in between.

The reason why the government does these things is to complete the “thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” of the lord’s prayer. It calls us to make our world as heavenly as it can be, and how not help the poor but with a government greater than ourselves? Why not strive to utopia?
