Based on our WhereToPublish database, we were curious to see if the APCs depend on the publisher type and with relatively no surprise at all, the journals that are for-profit are way above:
For-profit journals = 2635 +/- 37€ (mean +/- sem)
Non-profit & University Press journals = 1996 +/- 63€

Unexplored deep-water worlds in Caribbean revealed for the first time Scientists discover underwater mountain ranges, golden towers of coral, and never-before-seen sea creatures.

It's Sunday, let's clean timeline with some feel good, non AI-slope, science discoveries with pretty images (except the featured image, gross!):

3. Applying HMP to real data — hmp 1.0.0-b.1 documentation

Big problem is how do you compute those without knowing when in time they happen?! Is the average a smoothed spatial and time representation?
When modelling time difference topos look much more similar hmp.readthedocs.io/en/latest/no...
Not sure this example is representative/well done (yet)

A Movement-Independent Signature of Urgency During Human Perceptual Decision Making - PubMed How does the brain adjust its decision processes to ensure timely decision completion? Computational modelling and electrophysiological investigations have pointed to dynamic 'urgency' processes that serve to progressively reduce the quantity of evidence required to reach choice commitment as time e …

Check out our new paper which isolates a human brain signal that specifically tracks the growing urgency to commit to a choice pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41611534/. This one was a long time coming! Sterling work from @harveymccone.bsky.social and a bunch of past lab members!

Very interesting and solid study on the contribution of the earliest #EEG index of information processing*, i.e. the C1, to decision-making!

Only two days left to submit your abstract for this year's @mathpsych.org meeting. Some things to consider:
1. The conference is in Canada.
2. If you cannot attend in person, there is a virtual track. Consider submitting there! You can pick the track during the submission process.
See you there!

There is growing interest in how cognitive control may improve value-based decision making.

However, we find that a recent paper overestimated the role of control in their task, leading to erroneous interpretations of dACC recordings.

Any alternative experience on why I should not do it?

Part 1: How do LLMs work?
Part 1: How do LLMs work? YouTube video by Andrew Perfors

I just created a series of seven deep-dive videos about AI, which I've posted to youtube and now here. 😊

Targeted to laypeople, they explore how LLMs work, what they can do, and what impacts they have on learning, well-being, disinformation, the workplace, the economy, and the environment.

Interpreting EEG requires understanding how the skull smears electrical fields as they propagate from the cortex. I made a browser-based simulator for my EEG class to visualize how dipole depth/orientation change the topomap.
