1. Comics used to be printed with a limited color palette, as seen in this picture. Any given area could be filled with 0%, 25%, 50%, or 100% of Cyan, Yellow, Magenta, or Black (CYMK). If you look closely at old comics, you can see the colored dots. The original art remained black and white.
