MISLAID BOOKS now has a bluesky account. @mislaidbooks.bsky.social
Be grand if you could give it a follow.
That's what we all said to each other over the breakfast table when Mulroney introduced them: "what is this woke nonsense?"
Sorry you have to do this to someone's project, but it sounds like the right call. "Situated in the field" is so important for scholarship - it makes the findings make sense.
Stitched inside teddy bears.
Hard agree. As a former broadcast journalist myself and a j-school grad, it was embarrassing to listen to. It reeked of "maybe this is the killer interview that will bring down a government - well done, me!"

Because I am a bad person:
βWoke badger fiverβ scans perfectly - *perfectly* - into βGuantanameraβ.
And now itβs in your head.

Oooh, "Young Ned" was a favourite of mine to play when I was in a Celt-punk band mid-00s. Hard spirit.
When I wrote "The Ballad of Leonard Peltier" on Trump's inauguration day, I worried that lines like "the day democracy died" & "a White House full of liars, toadies, and white supremacists" was over the top. Within a week, it was clear I was on safe ground. michaelmunnik.bandcamp.com/track/the-ba...
Here's one reason I appreciate Talarico. Experimental research finds when self-identifying Christian leaders say "I'm a Christian and Christian nationalism is bad news for everyone," it can get those movable people in the middle to distance themselves from it. doi.org/10.1007/s111...

I've had them refused at King's Cross Station, where trains journey north to Scotland. It's just incredible.
At least he writes in complete sentences.
In which I discuss Butterscotch Crumblecakes playing me in the film of my life and the dream of singing with Linda Ronstadt (I know, I know). A fun li'l interview with Newport City Radio on their Love Live Music Day and making my tune their Record of the Week. youtu.be/31OyIDTJlVk?...
There's a certain type for which that concession just will not stand.
New drinking game: have a drink every time I say "fantastic" in this interview. It's under 8 minutes - how bad could it be? youtu.be/31OyIDTJlVk?...
So, while there is no video for "It Comes to This" currently, there *is* a video of me chatting on the couch with Danny from Newport City Radio about, among other things, the song. Shout out to my mom and dad for playing 45s for me and my bruv. www.youtube.com/watch?v=31Oy...
It was! Sadly, it got moved and merged towards the end of my studies. But for the years our family needed it, it was a treasure and part of our eminently walkable Edinburgh lifestyle.
Top shelf pranking. Good to see serious adults can still have fun.
ngl when I did my PhD at Edinburgh Uni, there was a fantastic nursery that my little and that of the other guy who got his PhD funding same time/centre as me. It was great, it was close to our office, and it was housed in Psychology. And students *did* plot experiments. (Always with consent forms.)
Yes - that collaboration with their classmates and sharing interests is not cheating, nor is it detrimental to their success. Even seeds some of that self-sustaining learning.

This is why I think Rick Beato is doing a good service over on YouTube. It's not just about the players - though he does name check who's involved - but just breaking down the parts for people. For those extra-excited by music who want to do it themselves, this information is so enabling.
I use βBack to the Futureβ as part of a talk about learning (small changes can be a big deal!), and every year fewer people have heard of it. (Though this year one group that HAD seen it invited a group that hadnβt to a showing of the trilogy!)
Result!
Can you coax darth out of hibernation? I could use his heavy levity right now.
Cartoon drawing of Algy Pug from Rupert Bear. He's a white short-faced dog in humanoid form (though not really a pug, and then the visible tail through his trousers at the back is kind of large and fluffy - they weren't going for accuracy) wearing white boots, red trousers, and a blue jacket over a yellow waistcoat and white collared shirt. A blue bow tie tops the image.
Yes. A pity when this chap faded from view.
On the one-year anniversary of his detention by federal authorities, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and First Lady Rama Duwaji welcomed Mahmoud Khalil, his wife Noor, and their baby boy, Deen, to Gracie Mansion to break the fast together.
They've made my tune "It Comes to This" from the new album their Record of the Week. It came as a surprise, not least as it was a late addition to the album and not the one I pegged as a single. Still, it's the one streaming on Spotify, so... michaelmunnik.bandcamp.com/track/it-com...
I dropped in on Newport City Radio at the weekend for a chat on Pure Local Plus - spin a couple of tunes, talk music and songwriting, and even hum the Archers theme song on a kazoo. You can drop in on the spot - it's on their Listen Again page for the next two weeks. player.autopod.xyz/1222308
