Our study found that a higher level of forecasting skill is needed in the eastern half of the U.S., especially in the Ohio Valley. On the other hand, areas such as Hawaii, southern California, southern Texas, southern Florida, & portions of Alaska are locations where it is easier to predict weather.
As part of our Best Places to Live or Work in the United States If You Need to Know What the Weather Will Be Like Tomorrow 2025 report, we calculated the overall average variance for each of the 793 locations analyzed to see which locations were easier or harder to forecast weather.

Europe has seen the sharpest rise in frequency of very large hail events, driven by increasing low-level moisture & atmospheric instability. Hail-related economic losses have increased in the United States, Australia, & Europe. (2/3)
A study led by the European Severe Storms Laboratory provides the first comprehensive global analysis of very large hail. The study found that northern Argentina was the global hotspot for very large hail events, followed by Uruguay, Paraguay, southern Brazil, the U.S. Great Plains, & South Africa.
These forecasts were made 24-48 hours in advance of what promises to be a very impactful storm system.
