I want to encourage all my American friends to go beyond being outraged on social media, and write to your representatives, and anyone else you think will listen. Now is not the time to despair. It's the time to do something.

Like many Americans, I'm outraged and concerned about the state of democracy in the U.S. A lot of what's happening rings true of authoritarian regimes, and before you accuse me of being an alarmist, I am old enough to remember living the final years of Noriega's regime in Panama.
