Hm, genuine question I wanted to source to see how most writers feel, and it’s totally okay to be honest btw but I’ve been curious. When it comes to physical zines, would you rather a zine have a low word count but more writer slots or Less writers and a higher word count.

Less word count, more writers. I prefer complete one chapter fics when I read anyway.

Not you throwing shade at the 5 million hoyoverse zines out there 😭

Something people need to acknowledge is that a large amount of mods don’t care about their zine(s) anymore. Are you really caring about your zine if you’re on 5 or more zines and seen trying to make one or joining one every other week? So many mods check out that moment they get into a zine and expect other people to do the work. They abandon their fellow mods, their contributors, and their supporters. If you don’t want to do a zine, drop or cancel it. It’s sad to see how many zine mods just don’t care about the zines they are on. Look at star rail and genshin zines. Same mods who struggle with their zines taking months to publish and then go on to join more. Stop wasting peoples time.

[Same person who sent that first anon on here] The fact that they're about to enter preorders but the account STILL hasn't been updated is driving me insane. They didn't even update to say they were working on formatting or to introduce contribs or mods. No one knows what's going on behind the scenes here it's been Dead silent. I hope they either advertise the hell out of pre orders or have them open long enough because I don't see what there plans are going forward from here.

Plus a few days ago I shot them a message through their support thing and they haven't responded at All. Unless you're a mod or contributor you don't know Anything about this Zine I can't see it getting any profit unless they pull some stuff last minute OR they charge an exorbitant amount for the zine. Which I could kinda see cause the head mod put a zine they managed previously on their personal bigbang and charged almost 100 for something super tiny compared to other zines I've seen.

So the concern about a thieving zine mod (the first I mentioned had two completed projects w/o public issue, the second had etsy star seller) is extremely fresh.

Its been asked on one of the zines I'm on. Besides 2023 having 2 serial finance modders ghosting and running off with the money, 2025 now has a new modder who's been delaying the shipping/payment of 12 zines for months and a mod who stole $18k and completely ghosted everyone.

If you're upfront about your lack of experience and communicate any delays/changes well, in a free zine, everyone will cut you a lot of slack even if you make mistakes. With tariffs and the risk of zine thieves digital zines are becoming more commonplace and welcomed.

If that fails, you actually don't need experience to run a free, digital (or one where buyers donate directly to charity and send proof for a copy) zine. @zinetown.bsky.social is a great server to ask for advice and digital zines that don't involve directly handling money have much lower stakes.

Zine mod positions can be pretty gatekeepy but have you considered asking a zine for an intern position? Usually you get to see how modding works in all aspects but the tradeoff is that you have to pay production price + shipping to get a copy

just not how much they gave or a screenshot for proof.

If you're asking for the purposes of blacklisting I don't believe any of the mods are modding zines anymore. Nobody called them out at the time because pretty much everyone was a first time contributor and didn't know how these worked.

This was the Technoblade zine made to honor him and donate to the Sarcoma Foundation after his passing 💔

I reread the doc they posted and yes, they did kick out those writers because they felt guilty rejecting them for a charity zine about a real life person. But they did claim to make a donation,

Their finance mod also ghosted (?????) and sent the money back (to who? no idea) but I guess there was nothing left to donate despite the fact that they got 5k likes on their interest check tweet!

If you guessed that the head mod had zero experience organizing a physical zine, you got it right! They took the complaints that writers always get shafted so seriously that they didn't want to exclude anyone despite needing to due to physical page counts that they ended up doing something worse.

The zine, despite being for a charity very dear to the subject the zine was about, still has not posted their proof of donation.

The kicker?

These contributors were made to pay retail instead of production price.

30 writers were recruited in a zine to write a piece for a zine anthology. After 4 months of creation, days before preorders, they were told that they would all be cut from the zine. Not because of the cost, but because *these writers were only

been active on their personal account since January. It's OK if Ash messed it up but y'all at least owe it to your buyers with monthly updates, and especially when a deadline (for shipping) was set and y'all blew past it with no explanation.

It should be the other way around! The mod team's supposed to be the one making a statement about Ash and why nothing was shipped and I'm supposed to retweet it!

It's been two months since Ash's fuckery has been made public and there's not been a single peep from the mods nor has the social's mod

Twitter thread by that says "I feel like it's kind of a fandom rite atp to be burned by a zine and I'm definitely going through it right now with the Aggravate zine. The whole apparent situation with their shipping mod aside, the fact that none of the other mods have stepped up to communicate that and the ++ Only reason I'm even aware that theres a situation with shipping is because of a page thats keeping up with zine tea took the time to respond to people asking for updates is just really pathetic."

I'm fucking crying. This is true. Ash sucks as a mod but it's also the mod team's responsibility to let everyone know what's causing delays and what they're doing about it.

Was that the cookbook zine? Because that was crazy.
