A heartbroken John Noakes ponders the quotidian nature of his alleged thoughts - and curses an incorrect use of a possessive case apostrophe in 'Buddy' (1981):
You wait all your life for one Liverpool-based Vaughan to turn up in the singles collection of a Hertfordshire record shop*, and then....
(See also M and B Winters at the Glasgow Empire: "Oh, no - there's two of the f*ckers!")

We'll be looking at Harlan Ellison's brilliant 1957 short story 'The Soldier' in tomorrow's 'Worlds of Sci-Fi' Shared Reading group.
This week's photos are from Cambridge photographer D.Stuart's images* of the deserted Butlin's in Filey - very 'sci-fi'/Xbox FPS!

I've always tried to get the message across that great literature explains and illustrates the human condition, and most importantly, that there are good souls out there who think, feel and love the way that ππΌπ do.
But nothing encapsulates my time on earth as succinctly and accurately as this cat:

The collar is a bit extravagant, but a nice shirt, nevertheless.
Len's goal v Man United in that (WBA) 5-3 away was a thing of great beauty.
There's not a great deal you can do with the Derby template, but I like the Umbro embellishments.
Excellent work, Chris. 'TTWL' was one of the last of the Wyndham 'canon' I read, and to tell the truth, it was a bit disappointing. There's a (tedious) touch of smartarsery about the book, and it lacks the earnestness and urgency of his (much) better novels. A decent read, nevertheless.

I left the house at 11.15 or so this morning, muttering 'Eff off Everton/England' after getting up all excited to watch the T20. I've just seen the denouement now!
