While I’m glad that police records back up the fact that foreigners are less likely to commit crimes, the reality is with xenophobic people in political power and there’s little to no oversight over disinformation across all forms of media, foreigners are less safe than ever. Such troubling times. 😢
Does one get the special price if their maiden name is Satō? Asking for a friend.
I didn’t even know that. I now understand why it’s widely popular among the Japanese population, especially with my relatives.
NGL while these new laws are good, without an infrastructure that makes cities bicycle friendly, I don’t think it’ll have much effect on changing cyclists’ behavior.
Japan's cities are notorious for the lousy behavior of bicycle riders. Starting April 1st, police will fine cyclists for a wide range of offenses, including using a smartphone or umbrella while cycling. But some say that's not enough.

Manga publisher Shogakukan just revealed that its online site Manga ONE has been publishing a SECOND pedophile. It revealed that act-age author Matsuki Tatsuya, convicted of groping a minor in public in 2020, was working as "Yatsunami Miki" since last year.
Speaking of that arch-right-wing figure I recently interpreted an interview with, this was something else he insisted: that while foreigners in Japan are inherently criminal, Japanese people abroad commit exactly "no crimes."

I’m glad authors like Takahashi Rumiko and many more are making a stand against their publisher Shogakukan and demand accountability for hiding Yamamoto Shoichi’s criminal past and continuing to employ him under a pen name.
Enough of these sex crimes and zero accountability! Arrest them all!
