Every time it comes up I just gotta remind people that it's extremely expensive to license filming in Shibuya, which the team making this game couldn't afford, so they filmed this game by stealing shots and running from the cops.

oh on that front I think it's fine, actually.
unsure if random people on twitch would behave themselves for the original nier, they DEFINITELY wouldn't for Automata.
had a feeling that's about all it was gonna turn out to be

it helps that the dub actors they got in XB1 were like extremely good. howden screams with more heart than even shulk's jp voice actor does, and that's not a knock on asanuma.
This bit in the From Russia With Love game made me laugh out loud. You've got a fairly grounded, low key fight based on the one in the movie, then the most video game looking fucker of all time slides into frame.
Having to fix AI/machine translation is more work than just translating from scratch.
AI does not "assist" translators, it just makes their work harder, brings down the quality, and impacts their pay. 😭
time to go stock up on famotidine
Remember the old 2000s fansub days, when groups would race to get subs out so that they'd be the first and get the most viewers even if it meant tons of preventable errors?
Or how some groups would pick a neglected series/genre, produce a slapdash, low-effort TL, then go "It's better than nothing"?
[i am actually an editor with one of my clients now so I'd absolutely be down for proofreading assistance ETC;]
Extending my offer to lend a hand with the workload of this as I have in the past, of course.
oh shit this was about a fan translation? that's even worse, good grief. that's people wanting to push a magic button to play a game they heard about, not realizing that the magic isn't real and what they get isn't the game they wanted to play at all.
this. i still see people in english speaking communities talk about Tales of Phantasia in weird ways cause of how that one group with the slur in their name tackled translating it.
also ai slop translations often involved people being payed less to do more work[cause LLMs are bad at it] while being paid way less, which almost assuredly means whatever quality checking done won't be thorough enough cause they're not being paid enough to put food on the table.
they keep coming up with the funniest lil guys each gen, pretty impressive 30 years ongoing.
