In response to von der Leyen’s remarks that the “people of Iran deserve freedom, dignity, and the right to decide their own future”, Esmaeil Baqaei posted on X: “Please spare the hypocrisy”. “You’ve made a career out of standing on the wrong side of history — green-lighting occupation, genocide, and atrocities, and now laundering U.S./Israeli crime of aggression and war crimes against Iranians,” Baqaei wrote. Baqaei continued: “Where was your voice when more than 165 innocent IRANIAN little angels were massacred in the city of Minab? Why don’t you say anything when hospitals, historical sites, oil facilities, diplomatic police headquarter, firefighting stations and residential neighborhoods are wickedly targeted? “Silence in the face of lawlessness and atrocity is nothing less than complicity.”

Von Der Leyen has been part of the effort to completely abandon the EU's ability to have a moral high ground, all to allow Israel's genocide to continue unopposed.

To those concerned, In the early hours of this morning it was announced that NHS England is stopping all new prescriptions of trans healthcare to under-18s. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cly0ppdzj2yo There is no justification for this decision other than what we already knew - that the UK Government wants to end all support for trans people through the NHS. Threats of bans on sex hormones through private providers continues this clear campaign to end the ability of trans people to transition in the UK. This is conversion practices by medical institution and regulation. It is absolutely evident that the UK Government has no interest in a comprehensive and inclusive ban on conversion practices. To deliver that would be to criminalise their own Health Secretary.
This follows only days after Aberdeen-based academic Professor Jacob George was recused from the MHRA puberty blockers clinical trial after the discovery of openly transphobic comments he had made regularly on social media, that made clear his belief that trans identities are not valid. With all of this now so open it is vital that the Scottish Government commits to proceeding alone with a comprehensive and inclusive conversion practices ban. There is no ban coming from the UK Government and we can be a safe harbour for those now threatened by that Government inflicting the very abuse they were promised protection from.
We are asking for commitments to: - Immediately bring forward a comprehensive and trans-inclusive ban on conversion practices without exceptions - Pledge not to follow the approach of the UK Government of institutionalised conversion practices through the denial of healthcare to trans people - To end the indefinite block on puberty blockers with an independent study not under the control of an anti-trans Government push to end trans healthcare in the UK.
