The Simkins Award is given for the best first book by an author in the field of southern history over the preceding last two years. This yearβs winner is Evan Nooe for his new book Aggression and Sufferings: Settler Violence, Native Resistance, and the Coalescence of the Old South #2025SHA
The Jack Temple Kirby Award is given for the best journal article in southern agricultural and environmental history published over a two-year period. This yearβs winner is Bert Way for βThe Grass Problem: Agrostology, Agriculture, and Environmental Transformation in the New South.β #2025SHA
The Frank and Harriet Owsley Award for the best book in Southern history published last year is awarded to David Doddington for Old Age and Americam Slavery #2025SHA
The James A. Rawley Award for the best book on secession and/or the sectional crisis published over the preceding two years is awarded to Seth Rockman for Plantation Goods: A Material History of American Slavery #2025SHA
The C. Vann Woodward Award for the best dissertation written on Southern history in the preceding year is awarded to Jewel Parker #2025SHA
