As for Villa, 1981, 1982 'aberrations' aside most of their success came pre the 92 club set up pre WW1. Indeed in terms of top flight and FA Cup wins, Wolves have won more since WW2, but even their golden age was in era of maximum age. Abolition of that and PL two big 'shocks' to system.

So am I. Look at geographic distribution of top flight over last century. Footballing power houses aside such as Liverpool, its basically a tale of wealth moving from provincial North and Midlands to South East and London. Just as with UK economy as a whole.

But there is a paradox. PL money has allowed small clubs like Brentford, Brighton and Bournemouth to sustain top flight teams, which was inpossible pre 1992. But trophy winning ever more concentrated.

Grography, both economic and football does matter. Here is one for you. WBA and Wolves had both won the FA Cup four times before neither Chelsea and Liverpool had won it once. In terms of PL participation 'small clubs' from south have overtaken midlands and north 'big clubs'

today at the World Metaphors Classic the leader of the USA didn't bother to find out the details of the situation his team was in and blindly assumed they would win a matchup they ended up losing, jeopardizing their long-term standing for no good reason

Feels like Keir Starmer is coming out swinging but probably kmows he is on the way out. He is doing well on Iran, but his evisceration of Badenoch at #pmqs has to be put in contret of him knowing he has ballsed up big time over Mandelson. Morgan 'genius' McSweeney strikes again it seems

I agree. See also my daughter. My family history is instructive. Great grandfather a miner. Grandad a steelworker. Dad a butcher. I went to Uni. I work in consultancy. Always voted Lab. We all have. The party seems to only be talking to my Grandad. He has been dead 35 years.

In today’s game of Make Millions With Market Manipulation:

1. Energy Secretary posts that a tanker has been safely escorted through Hormuz.
2. Oil price falls 10%, friends buy.
3. Energy Secretary deletes post.
4. Oil price rises 12%, friends richer.

Thank you for playing, see you all tomorrow.

Oil prices dip as Trump says Iran war is 'ahead of schedule' and will end 'very soon' After surging above $100 a barrel on Monday, oil is now closer to $90. Trump also says he will hit Iran

Why the heck respected news outlets are still spending their time trying to put a rational interpretation on a speech by a guy who literally doesn't know what he's thinking or saying from minute to minute, goodness only knows.

As an IR professor, it's depressing that this is outperforming all others as the best theory of US foreign policy

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD…

Can we STOP with this β€˜special relationship’ BS

And also…can we wake up to the treachery of our right wing press?!

I read the Curtis' piece. It was thoughtful at least. But one of the tenets was 'hero voter' is being misinterpreted as 'socially conservative' as opposed to 'economically insecure'. Economic insecurity will affect white collar social liberals progressively more in future AI etc.

By pandering to and not challenging the socially conservative streak of the movement, the Labour Party will literally be following its voters to the graveyard.

Work might have dignity but increasingly it doesnt give a stake in society. BL as with Red Wall /hero voters strategy doesnt recognise this.

But, rather than receiving a formal
invite to meet Trump, Farage was in
fact invited to Mar-a-Lago by a
member of the club, according to
multiple people briefed on the matter

They said Farage had hoped he would
be able to catch Trump for a
conversation as the US president was
scheduled to travel to Mar-a-Lago that
evening. However, Trump had a
change in his itinerary and decided to
stay instead in Doral, about an hour`s
drive away

The Reform leader's failure to secure
an audience with the US president
underscores a weakening of ties
between the two populist leaders who
famously formed a close friendship in
the vears before and after the 2016

Massive humiliation for Farage, who tipped off the UK press that he was flying to Florida to have dinner with Trump... only for Trump to decide he had more interesting things to do when Nigel arrived.

So Fulham and Sunderland, both comfortably mid-table with little chance of qualifying for Europe through the league and practically zero chance of relegation, fielded second-string teams for their FA Cup 5th round ties. Why?? Shame for their supporters, but both clubs got what they deserved.

I wonder if a drone has hit Dubai Marina. Or whether it was just
debris from a successful interception.

If only loads of Dubai based accounts, including Isabel Oakeshott's, could tell me.

It really is something to see politicians, commentators and media outlets whose whole identity is based on being so-called β€˜patriots’ frothing with excitement as they line up to back a deranged megalomaniac who consistently attempts to belittle and bully the country they claim to love
