It's hard working with a cat on your lap. The thing is she's OLD - 17 - a bit grumpy and as we've just moved house, quite stressed. The thing really is I'm just a total softy and can't say no.

In 1989 Clive Emsley and Ian Bridgeman surveyed the private archives of police force across England and Wales. Their report makes for intriguing reading. I feel it's a story half told so I'm copying their data onto a spreadsheet. It's a labour of love - I'll keep you posted! #historians #archives

Great news! Our latest @vchlondon.bsky.social 'Short' on the development (the creation, if you like), of Southend, London's seaside on the Essex coast.

The work of an amazing team of volunteer historians, taking snapshots of the town, people, development, and industries.

Amazing news. Personally, as an autistic historian, archives are pretty much my favourite place to work.

BUT figuring out all the rules and accessibility for a new archive is undeniably stressful and I always have a meltdown after I've been to a new one.
