Magnesium cream on feet and calves massaged in at bedtime. You can get ones with lavender in too which smells nice. Expensive ones no better than the basic ones for results in my experience.
With 100+ comments, my essay on what a small group of us in a rural Irish location are doing to support each other as people ageing without children is getting a LOT of attention! jodyday.substack.com/p/whos-going...
What is your relationship to the concept of 'legacy' as someone without children? Mine is complex, and it's changed RADICALLY over time. Free to read: jodyday.substack.com/p/leaving-no...

"As our world's natural and social structures continue to unravel, steady hearts, minds and souls will be needed to hold us. This has always been one of the roles of Elders. But in a society that lionises youth and demonises aging, what does it mean...?"

βIn Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.β
Don't Hesitate, by Mary Oliver. If You suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy, don't hesitate. Give in to it. It. There are plenty of lives and whole towns destroyed or about to be. We are not wise and not very often kind. And much can never be redeemed. Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this is its way of fighting back, that sometimes something happens better than all the riches or power in the world. It could be anything, very likely you notice it in the instant when love begins. Anyway, that's often the case. Anyway, whatever it is, don't be afraid of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.
My wife shared this today. She is the best.

Don't think single people get enough credit for doing life alone. Rent/mortgage is double, household responsibility and life admin is down to one person, you're your own emotional support, holidays are more expensive, you've to trap and transport human sacrifices for the solstice bonfire solo, etc.
A considered piece by Yuthika Girme at Simon Frazer University, Canada.
Left - female Asian elephant. Right - Jody Day, author of the piece is stroking the elephant's mouth under her trunk. In the background are the mountains of northern Thailand. For Valentine's Day, let's remember that LOVE is a liberatory energy. "Letβs liberate love, and each other, any and every way we can." Free to read at jodyday.substack.com/p/lets-flood...
So looking forward to my hard copy arriving in a few weeks. So much of this book has stayed with me, like a soft moss growing on my heart!
Indeed! Ireland can be a very tough crowd for single (and non-mother) women!
I'm away from Ireland right now, but would love to have heard the jaws dropping the floor for this segment!
Ye Gods! Get well soon xxx
This is good.
An opportunity to participate in research about how coaching can help individuals with concealable stigmatised identities navigate inclusivity issues in the workplace. βConcealable stigmatised identityβ (CSI) is a term used in literature to describe a part of a person' s identity which can be kept hidden from others, and which is socially stigmatized, devalued and negatively stereotyped. Examples include sexual orientation, illness, disability, neurodiversity, hidden ethnicity, class, parental status, gender identity, religion. The research will use the term βCSIβ because it is used in the literature, it is not intended to label individuals. Concealing information to avoid stigma can interfere with a personβs ability to authentically be themselves, contrasting with rhetoric about bringing oneβs whole self to work. Coaching for diversity has focused on visible characteristics, and the aim of this research is to explore how coaching can help people with CSIs navigate inclusivity challenges they may face in the workplace. This research hopes to add to professional practice by providing coaches and coach educators with insights, in this under-researched area, on how to work with individuals with CSIs in the workplace, and on a broader level potentially contribute to workplace inclusivity. You may be internal or external to the organisation. The coaching did not have to be specifically for an individualβs CSI, but your coachee would have discussed their CSI and its workplace impact with you. What does taking part involve? Taking part involves participating in a 60-90 minute interview by Zoom with Sophia Andeh between January and September 2024. All information shared within this research will be kept strictly confidential (subject to legal limitations). If you have any questions, or to obtain a participant information sheet, please email Sophia at 18024638@brookes.ac.uk
Have you had coaching at work around a 'CSI' - 'concealable stigmatised identity' such as sexual orientation, illness, disability, neurodiversity, hidden ethnicity, class, parental status, gender identity, religion, etc?
