Attacks leave dead vs killed
Fun thing to think about very briefly: who currently has better lawyers, the United States or Nintendo
I've spoken to folks who are justifying this stuff in the same way they justify Israeli attacks on Gazans: "Did you know the Iranians hide weapons and soldiers in hospitals and schools?!?" It doesn't fucking matter. Targeting innocents is a war crime.
My hot take is that the battles over TDSB control are basically downstream from the fact that Toronto City Council forced rust belt budget problems on the TDSB by pricing out families with children through their policies.

I was thinking this as well. Congratulations Bari, you can run town hall meetings that piss off grandparents everywhere who wanted to watch Blue Bloods instead
Canada would have been better off saying nothing. You can detest the regime in Iran without supporting chaos. www.pm.gc.ca/en/news/stat...
Canadaβs position remains clear: the Islamic Republic of Iran is the principal source of instability and terror throughout the Middle East, has one of the worldβs worst human rights records, and must never be allowed to obtain or develop nuclear weapons.
Carney already has his statement out justifying another breach of international law by the US and Israel.
Israel, not Iran, is the principle source of instability in the region, given its expansionist tendencies and apartheid system, backed by a superpower that keeps starting destabilizing wars.
Back on Twitter, long before Musk bought it, when it was perceived as having a lib/left cast, journalists were always ticking users off because it wasnβt βreal lifeβ. Now itβs X, a far-right site, they tick us off because itβs βthe commonsβ and apparently weβre missing real life by not being there?
The Bikes On Bloor study found that the, oh so concerned street-level retail business owners were the ones using all the out-front street parking.

Sounds weird, doesnβt it?
Close-up photograph of Bill Clennett and Jean Chretien during the Shawinigan Handshake incident. Jean Chretien is on the right, wearing dark sunglasses and a dark coat, with his right hand gripping Bill Clennett by the face and neck. Bill Clennett is on the left, wearing a knitted winter hat and glasses, his head tilted back. Several people stand closely behind them, dressed in winter coats, watching the interaction. Snow and bare trees are visible in the background.
On this day in 1996, Bill Clennett confronted Prime Minister Jean Chretien during a National Flag of Canada Day commemoration, leading to what is now known as The Shawinigan Handshake

The government takes all its cues from private sector. We've been indoctrinated to believe government is inherently inefficient, but all of its worst qualities are from douchebag CEOs with MBAs.
"Officers are accused of trafficking, leaking addresses to hitmen, and leaking police officer addresses, the sources said.
The investigation also uncovered a conspiracy to kill a unit commander at the Toronto South Detention Centre, the sources said."

Itβd be great if the @tdsb.on.ca could make the call tonight. Radar shows at least a few more hours of snow. Just let us know. Now. Please.

Not a single reference Israel's continuing genocide in Gaza, illegal occupation and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. Unbelievable. Willful avoidance.
New piece at the Toronto Star, looking at the link between housing affordability and falling birthrates. In short, families are having fewer children than they'd like because they can't afford family-friendly homes.

This is a model for what actual masculinity should be. Men donβt need to spend more time in caves beating their chests with other men; they need to take their daughters to a meaningful thing and talk to them about it. Relatedly I think the biggest cure for toxic masculinity is platonic women friends
It is my opinion that there are meaningful differences between the politics of Canada and the United States, and this kind of reaction to criticizing the fascist tone of American politics is unhelpful, boring and wrong. bsky.app/profile/gord...
bari weiss is in hot water, fielding accusations of both malice and incompetence, but itβs not too late for her to clear this whole thing up by sitting down for an honest, straightforward interview with isaac chotiner.
I would like to recognize the good work of the photo caption writer in this story about convicted terrorist Matthew Althorpe:
"Matthew Althorpe, seen here in his room in his mother's basement, pleaded guilty in October to terrorism offences."
Feral.

My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

Children don't collide with vans. The child is not the active party here, and frankly I think people who write articles like this should reexamine their lives.
he's gonna spend $600 billion on datacentres. do you know what i could build for $600 billion?

But according to data shared by Coun. Rowena Santos β collected by speed cameras that were no longer distributing tickets but which were still capturing vehicle speeds - Brampton saw 71,258 speeding incidents from Nov. 16 to Nov. 22 in the areas where cameras were located. That compares to 31,581 incidents the week prior when the cameras were still distributing tickets.
so our government made a big deal about banning speed cameras but one city left theirs running to see what difference the ban would make and you are not going to believe this
I don't want to go full whataboutism but it's notable to me this group has only organized to oppose two apartments near King in Parkdale and didn't organize to support the 100% affordable rental building the United Church applied to build. Sort of gives away the game to me.
Half of modern journalism just needs to be reporters asking politicians to define the words they use after they've used them.
