We're not talking about small business bub, we're talking about big business. It must be nice with things working the way it does where you live but in the USA we fucked up with our DEI programs.

There are two evil CEOs inside of me. One is John Hammond, the other is Willy Wonka. Both will probably endanger children.

Wasn't worth keeping the other guys on if they weren't gonna be getting anything for the trouble from Uncle Sam. Sucks but that's how it is and it's only gotten worse since then across all sorts of industries. Once the programs are back in place we need to rethink what they actually do for folks.

I worked at Chili's in my 20s and they had a similar program. Hired me and two other dudes with disabilities in order to qualify for some sort of government program. When I quit after dealing with workplace harassment they canned the other two dudes. They needed all 3 of us to get the money.

And as long as they met certain workplace diversity thresholds they could squeeze just that extra bit of money out of their workers. That's how DEI has worked in practice. Was a good idea but we fucked it up by getting money involved. Doesn't just effect entertainment industries either.

Acti-Blizz and the gaming industry as a whole was especially scummy. Have this revolving door hiring system where they bring a bunch of fresh young devs in, put em to work for a year or two then before they're up for a pay increase yank the rug out from under em, bring in some newbies, repeat.

But they were heavily exploited and did little to encourage actual diversity, equity or inclusion when they were in place. Look at Disney, look at Acti-Blizz, shit companies ran by shit people who kept throwing minorities under the bus while people like Bobby Kotick kept getting richer and richer.

The assholes at the top. Not sure how it works in other countries but in the USA companies of certain size are able to receive government funding for taking part in DEI initiatives/programs. Those programs have been shut down under the current admin which isn't good either.

The day I finally learn how to make people combust with the power of my mind is the day we no longer have to deal with politics.

To fix the workplace landscape the focus needs to be on fixing the cultures within them. Giving greedy, exploitative assholes more reason to be greedy, exploitative & assholey hasn't done shit for minorities. I think we need to go back to drawing board and figure out a better way to make DEI happen.

Eh, I'm still largely against how it's been implemented. Providing financial incentives to corporations to have X amount of people in X amount of positions only lead to rich, white CEOs trying to make the most amount of money they can off the least amount of minority employees.
