Small Faces a lovely surprise!
Thx for solving the mystery! This household keeps it tuned to 89.5 at all times. Apologies for the mixup but your show has nevertheless turned us on to so much great stuff 🙏
I took at a look at your Dec. 15 playlist and Johnny Brooklyn's Dec. 18 playlist and no Violeta Parra! It's possible that Shazam misidentified a tune, for sure. This is the song, though, which is great, and I swear I heard it on your show!

🤔 gotta run but I’ll sort this mystery out soon…
Arauco Tiene una Pena, December 18 (according to my Shazam🤷♂️) but I didn’t check against your playlist.
Appreciate the shout 🙏 Just such a great high-energy show today. My wife & I are longtime listeners 🤙. That Violeta Parra track you played about six weeks back was a real mind blower in particular.
Killer show today so far!
Tough one but satire I think, mostly because taking Fillmore from Jackson/Scott to Civic Center is not a terribly innovative route.
Thx for the rec.
🤷♂️
This story reminds me of when you'd be sussing out some kid's musical taste and ask "Do you like Led Zeppelin?" and they'd say "Oh, yeah, HE'S great!"

Subjectively, you may not feel safe in San Francisco. Objectively, you’ve rarely been safer."
An idea:
See new essays in New Republic. I have gathered and edited eleven essays by historians on teaching and writing history in the time of Trump. We are fighting back! I'll be on MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell tonight at 10 to talk about the special issue of TNR.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) announced today that it will begin an orderly wind-down of its operations following the passage of a federal rescissions package and the release of the Senate Appropriations Committee’s FY 2026 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-H) appropriations bill, which excludes funding for CPB for the first time in more than five decades. For nearly 60 years, CPB has carried out its Congressional mission to build and sustain a trusted public media system that informs, educates, and serves communities across the country. Through partnerships with local stations and producers, CPB has supported educational content, locally relevant journalism, emergency communications, cultural programming, and essential services for Americans in every community. “Despite the extraordinary efforts of millions of Americans who called, wrote, and petitioned Congress to preserve federal funding for CPB, we now face the difficult reality of closing our operations,” said CPB President and CEO Patricia Harrison. “CPB remains committed to fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities and supporting our partners through this transition with transparency and care.”

“We cannot deny the realities of both the past and the present. We must educate ourselves on truthful and accurate histories, which will require all of us to acknowledge our families’ roles related to the past.”

Scenes from #NoKingsDay in San Francisco on Saturday:
Thousands marched from Dolores Park to Civic Center.
I would like the major news outlets to imagine that this is Sen. Cornyn or Sen. Cotton and headline accordingly.
Subtle as a Flying Mallet!
I will be damned if I allow a bunch of Confederate-waving January 6th apologists give the American people a lecture on flag waving.
There is ZERO reason to enter an argument about patriotism with people who still worship traitors to America 150+ years later.
They. Are. Breaking. The. Law.

ICE agents arrested at least 2 people outside a San Francisco courthouse on Tuesday morning.
Video shows protesters surrounding an ICE mini-van with a man inside, banging on the van & opening its doors, trying to prevent the arrest.
Protests are growing outside court.
It’s not like there’s a “good guy” here.
The anti-Tesla movement is one of the most successful cases of social coordination in American history. In the span of six months the Tesla brand has been made radioactive.
This isn’t a subjective view. You can see it in the data.
my column/essay this week is on the administration's war on the future, what that means, and the obligation anti-trump americans have to articulate a robust vision of an egalitarian future in response. read/share/etc.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court ruled courts must assess the full context of a police encounter when determining what constitutes excessive force — not just the moments right before the lethal force.
Over 1,300 people were killed by police last year. This ruling will help hold the police accountable.
