Worked in academia for a while, mostly on interference mitigation in open communication systems. Now it's time for some more hands-on action. Main account on ActivityPub/Mastodon: https://chaos.social/@cypherhippie

Super geniale Sache!
Als Medienwissenschaftler liegt mir besonders diese Frage am Herzen:
"Wie können wir Medienstrukturen schaffen, die Unabhängigkeit und Chancengleichheit fördern?"
Aber ich kann leider nicht vor Ort sein.

Let <C> be citizenship status of those that are in control of the organization.
Let <J> be jurisdiction the organization is registered within.
For people who care more about changing J than about changing C this switch seems to make sense, doesn’t it?
Honestly this weekend was when OpenAI jumped the shark for me. I was willing to extend them benefit of the doubt right up to the point where they signed a contract with the government that allows autonomous weapons, while telling everyone that it prohibits them.
Breaking news: @eurosky.social is a 🕵️♀️ CIA psyop taken down by a €2.95 request to a Dutch chamber of commerce. Sources have revealed that one of the team is... 🫨 American
Not sure if the ‘Lack of Patriotism’ and ‘Enemy Within’ narrative will work in this context.
Goering claimed that it always does:

Historically, we know that even zen priests can be whipped up like that, but what about those that are chronically dopamine depleted?
THIS.
What could ‘Anti Proprietary Media’ mean?
Any form of mass communication that is ‘based on infrastructure’ that ‘cannot be owned privately’?
Seems feasible in all modern non-police-states, doesn’t it?
We've released a self-hostable reference implementation of a PLC read-replica service to make the Atmosphere ever more decentralized. @retr0.id has details on what this all means.

‘protocol survival’ sounds a bit like a category mistake to me. So maybe this question doesn’t make much sense, but:
What would be the ‘survival rate maximizing strategies’ in this context?
This separates ATP from Bluesky dependency. If Bluesky fails, the protocol survives as internet standard. Same level as HTTP or TCP/IP, not application layer like programming languages.
RFC publication takes time. But the charter shows serious commitment.
Just learned about FediSky, a project by @msonnberger.com that adds an ActivityPub instance sidecar to a PDS.
Think Bridgy Fed except hosted by the PDS owner or Wafrn except reversed.
Still in early dev, but keeping an eye on this space 👀
Additionally to Canada & EU - who would probably like to join in on some serious (media focused) anti-authoritarian-backsliding action?
Let’s do a map for strategic coalition building 😎

My colleague and I wrote a piece about the urgent need for Europe to partner with Canada in building a digitally sovereign ecosystem—one that can withstand the threats posed by US tech authoritarianism:
This reminded of the talk by Jen from @gandersocial.bsky.social in Berlin a few weeks ago. AFAIK she tried to make a similar point?
Let’s build more Canadian-European projects

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump withdrew the United States from 66 international bodies, including the Freedom Online Coalition. With this move, the US has formally stepped away from a core part of its leadership of the global Internet norms it once helped build, writes Konstantinos Komaitis.

Hellooo there 🙋🏻♂️
Any idea where other atp folks may gather?
Four public-interest researchers have been barred from the US for holding tech companies accountable. When governments target researchers, journalists and watchdogs, it is an assault on free speech and we should call it out as such.
Researchers are not censors. They are being censored.
