Not to mention how unwieldy it is as an acronym. Will the Catholic version be NRSVUECE? What about when they update it again? NRSVUUE? It quickly becomes ridiculous; they could have been like every other translator and simply started printing NRSVs with the new content.
Well deserved! A powerful and consistently compelling read.
One third of Bible Gateway's top 25 most viewed verses worldwide in 2024 were from Psalm 91. Ten years ago, at least in the U.S., it didn't even make the top 100. Here are a few thoughts about what that rise could mean about our national and global condition.
That is a large dividing line between evangelicals and, well, everyone else β but I'd say the fact that nearly a third say it's *not* wrong and support marriage, contra public perception (and internal pressure) is the big story here.
In terms of 2024 releases, if you haven't already read them: Marilynne Robinson's "Reading Genesis" and Nancy French's "Ghosted" (which someone else also mentioned) β very different books, both very worthy reads (or listens).
Criminally underappreciated. It's hard to imagine a more perfect theological novel
How can you not be impressed by the best graphics the original PlayStation has to offer
Traditionalist Nazi nuns vs. progressive ecologist priests/Pope is such an excellent inversion of the trope. Begging for a film adaptation
And the Hebrew "ruach" is feminine, so there's another good option
100% β and worth noting the practice is only a few centuries old, not at all endemic to the text
Someone I respect wrote recently he doesn't like people using the impersonal "it" for the Holy Spirit (rather than "he"), which got me thinking.
Unfortunately "he" is not biblical as ΟΞ½Ξ΅αΏ¦ΞΌΞ± is a neuter noun. The good news is, there's a gender-neutral pronoun in English, too: singular "they." #lfg
Correction, Eternals is the most underrated superhero movie and it's not even close. Beyond that I see nothing incriminating here, you're free to go
A remarkable tonal followup to the Onion's all-time classic, "Local Church Full Of Brainwashed Idiots Feeds Townβs Poor Every Week." Nice job speaking to your base @nytimes.com
Always a pleasure to publish your work, Scot!
