On average, over my entire lifetime (b. 1970):
-Every. Single. GOP President to date save Ford has taken America to war.
-EVERY. Single. GOP President has crashed the economy.
-On average with the exception of Carter, DNC Presidents end up bailing us out of bad economies created by GOP policies.
Twenty years ago today, I started my first paid job as a writer with this post on MacUser.com. I canβt believe Iβve been doing this for two decadesβI still remember where I was when I wrote my try-out pieces and sent them to @snell.zone! I shall now crumble into dust.

oh, one other thought: 3d printers are worse than computers or woodshops for the "I need this widget to really make it run better" -- so be aware the printer is just the beginning. And you will want an enclosure for it.
I will note at some point you'll end up thinking you need to figure out CAD modeling to make it really useful (hello, Fusion 260). And that can turn into a real rabbit hole.
bambu A1. Not a lot of money, good entry level, and a useful tool that after an initial run of printing everything, has turned into a nice tool when I need it.

I am another person who owes a lot to PageMaker. My college paper converted to it the year I joined, and I quickly made myself indispensable (and fell in love with the Mac). I also created the PostScript edition of InterText, one of the first magazines on the Internet, using PageMaker.
Earlier this year I shared my 2025 Favorite Photographs. But not eveyrhing gets included in that list, so I've created a post including some photographs that did not quite make it: 2025 (Almost) Favorite photographs.

It's not hyperbole to say I wouldn't be where I am today without PageMaker. My school paper had a Mac Plus and swapped 3.5-in disks often to run both the Mac and PageMaker. RIP to the man who made it, Paul Brainerd. Great writeup by @toddbishop.bsky.social

Winter panorama from Tunnel View in Yosemite National Park showing El Capitan, Bridalveil Fall, snow-covered granite cliffs, and mist drifting through Yosemite Valley after a storm.
Firefall 2026 brought full parking lots, shuttle lines, no reservation system β and then a winter storm.
By Monday: chain controls, closures, snow.
The glow never appeared.
Yosemite in winter is bigger than one sunset.

Renewable energy, carbon recapture, and air conditioning are absolutely growth industries.
Because we missed the opportunities to slow carbon growth, this is our new reality and the smart money will be investing in those areas.
