Trump cuts threaten US role in global climate modeling Agency cuts, layoffs and policy shifts are throwing America’s role into question.

Trump administration cuts, layoffs and restructurings have cast a shadow over U.S. participation in a major international climate modeling initiative -- a collaboration that federal scientists have been at the forefront of for decades. My story today: www.eenews.net/articles/tru...

Dispatch from my other life: Our upcoming concerts (Mar 13 & 14!) celebrate composer & long-time Cantori collaborator Adolphus Hailstork. I wrote a lil note on the program, which explores themes of freedom, resistance to tyranny & rebuilding after devastating conflict. πŸ‘‡

β€˜Nightmare scenarios’: Iran hits oil targets, testing Trump’s Teflon The regime’s attacks on tankers and refineries could reverberate through the U.S. economy ahead of midterms.

Iran is widening attacks on energy infrastructure in Gulf region, which could cause maximal pain to Trump's political fortunes at home when gas prices head for the stratosphere. "The mother of all nightmare scenarios for the global oil market was this." www.eenews.net/articles/nig...

The oil island that could break Iran President Donald Trump’s allies are urging him to take control of a small spit in the Persian Gulf that controls nearly all of Iran’s oil exports.

A tiny island inhabited by gazelles is the key to Iran's entire economy and funding for the brutal war machine of the regime. It's so sensitive that both Israel and U.S. forces have avoided destroying it for decades.

"Reporting and writing are two different skill sets and rare - RARE - is the occasion when it's wrapped into one person."

Rare is the occasion when I'm actually speechless but ???? Having both those skills at once is... literally... the job description???

Pay for however many newsletters you want, please, give all those writers money

But you can't replace a whole journalism ecosystem with a series of freelancers, you just can't. There also needs to be support for serious papers, magazines, online newsrooms, and nonprofit reporting

I largely agree with the spirit of this thread. But the idea that local and regional newsrooms are training grounds, rather than a place where real work rooting out everyday corruption takes place, is (imho) a *huge* part of how we got here

The Washington Post's description of the bodycam video of his arrest last year, and the translation of Mr. Shah Alam's comments, is gutting. Remember, he was entirely blind in one eye and could only see three feet in the other, and he spoke virtually no English.

He spent a year in jail for this.

It looks like the U.S. newspaper industry lost about 8 percent of its remaining employees in just one year in 2025.

I wish I could say that was unusual, but as this recently updated graphic shows, it has been going on for a long time...

Trump sidelines climate contrarians in science rollback The president has mocked global warming as a β€œhoax,” but his administration avoided testing that claim in court as it targeted the endangerment finding.

Climate denialists claimed victory when the Trump administration published an unprecedented report reliant on decades of debunked claims. The administration just proved it has no confidence their work could withstand scrutiny in a legal fight over climate regulations www.politico.com/news/2026/02...

The "Return" of the Golden Sword My grandfather guarded it. The British stole it. I'm named after itβ€”and I'm going to fight for it.

NEW: This was the last essay I was supposed to publish at the Washington Post. But they fired me.

I'm publishing it anyway-- about my family's connection to a sword the British looted from Ghana in 1874.

If youve ever wondered why I love swords, here's why.
