Youβll appreciate this: there are more people identifying as atheists in the US than that!
Okay this is pretty funny
IDK if itβs deliberate homage, but Iβve always loved how the opening set piece could easily be a De Palma sequence
Not for nothing, Mark Mone got his campus R1 status and a lifetime pass from his faculty, then drove his campus into the ground with a hiring freeze and closed two satellite campuses, firing tenured faculty, before cashing out and retiring last summer. The capitulation started early in Wisconsin.
Nobody knew anything six years ago.
βIt is our hope that we will return to our normal instruction and operations the following week, beginning Monday, April 13,β said Mark A. Mone, PhD, Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Iβm quite sure I was summoned to a campus leadership meeting that very week to listen to our chancellor dither about this: βletβs see what Madison and Milwaukee doβ

I have a university calendar in my office that I never changed from March 2020, at first unconsciously

Sheesh, that shoulda come with CW/TW
Yes this is true, it was exactly then that campuses in the Wisconsin system started closing and we all had to start teaching remotely. It was AWFUL.
For the rest of the world, I guess it was when basketball got cancelled?
He also gives that vibe every time he thinks, βthings are getting out of hand, I should confess to everything so we can stop this monster β but concludes, βnah, theyβd think Iβm a sociopath.β
A Michael Bay joint!
Appreciate that
In addition to Covid, my FIL was dying of progressive dementia. My wife remembers nothing we watched together for a span of at least three years
If you can remember what you were doing during lockdown, you werenβt really there
Hahahaha no one will judge you
Iβll never forget the moment @eddiemuller.bsky.social introduced me to Carl Franklin before this double bill @musicboxtheatre.bsky.social for #NoirCity, and the fantastic Q&A, one of the features on the Criterion 4K, was one of the best Iβve ever attended
Oh, thatβs awful! Sorry to hear it

Groningen is a university town with a typically diverse student body, many of whom are immigrants (a very common thing all over the EU). I have fond memories of my visit there (including wee-hours baked cheese from a Febo automat). Lekker!
The racist and xenophobe Geert Wilders, leader of the Dutch PVV, was booed and chased out of the city of Groningen last Saturday because many people are fed up with his tirades against immigrants. As a result, he had to stop handing out flyers.
In this video, you can see and hear what happened.
Not nearly the most important thing wrong with this, but thereβs no border between PA and NYC, βcrossed intoβ is another tell that weβre deep in the AI Uncanny Valley
Wow, if I ever knew he was a Sephardic Jew from Prague Iβd long forgotten it! Also: I see he was a bonafide Communist, didnβt remember that either
musician Gary Numan, born March 8, 1958, aged 68
actor Gary Oldman, born March 21, 1958, aged 67
Happy Gary Retrograde everyone!
The next two weeks are the only two weeks out of the year when Gary Numan is older than Gary Oldman
When I was in college studying German, I read a scathing takedown of Ford by a Marxist German journalist named Egon Erwin Kischβone highlight was Fordβs ruthless exploitation of his assembly line workers, who were not even afforded cigarette breaks, βdenn Ford ist Nichtraucher.β Memorable.
We donβt know each other, but I have befriended both Brian Tallerico and Odie Henderson, and they have nothing but high praise for you. My wife lost her job two years ago at age 59. It ended a career sheβd built for more than three decades. Iβm sure this wonβt be the end of yours, but Iβm sorry.
Well if this ainβt a gut punch

You *will* understand the opening montage of The Rockford Files
