Last year when I was checking into a hotel, the desk person was wearing Meta glasses. I kindly asked them to take them off. They were annoyed. I said, “I do not consent to you looking at my credit card and ID with Meta glasses on.” My instincts were correct: www.bbc.com/news/article...
and you're just saying that out loud, huh
A whiteboard leaned against a shelf with many trinkets. On the whiteboard, it says “When you look at a blank page, think of who you love”
In his acceptance speech for award for best screenplay, Ryan Coogler said “when you look at a blank page, think of who you love” and I dunno, that really moved me so I wrote it down and sat it on my desk to look at while I work
such a lovely thing to think about
I wrote this piece on how, even in sanctuary cities, lawmaking and enforcement deliver immigrants into ICE’s hands.
My hometown of Flushing, the place that raised me, plays the part of a landing port for newcomers. It is a cosmopolitan unto itself. Every issue we face is a microcosm faced elsewhere.
Star Trek Voyager scene. We've got Tuvok standing next to Seven of Nine (Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix 01). She's looking and him, and he's doing a smouldering, eyebrow popping look off into the distance thing. Closed caption reads, "I share your discomfort with social gatherings."

In lieu of Discord’s age verification policies, time to make another post about the dangers of online censorship (especially in connection to child trafficking).
Tl;dr: These policies are about surveillance, profit, and data mining…not about ‘saving the children.’

Hey y'all.
A South African dev released a blackity black game during BHM and it's currently getting the usual suspects in the reviews.
Imma grab this up myself anyway, but can we all be some chums and help push the racists out of the reviews? 🙂
Bravo Ireland. This is such a great boost for artists. I have an Artists tax exemption in Ireland for works under 50k. It helped me so much - existence in a feast or famine career is hard. But consecutive Irish governments realized that writers, musicians, artists are the lifeblood of the country.
This is starting to get like universal basic income where every single objective study shows the same result but the people who don't like that result go "uh, well there's just really no way to know"
I don’t really know what I expect in posting this, but maybe some people see it and can learn from it.
I’ll call it “lessons from an unwilling immigration attorney.”

This is true and I was the only one on set excited about it (and playing the song on my phone to blank stares)
John Oliver really was not kidding about the overwhelming rebellious power of just saying “Fuck you, make me.”
To friends overseas, please don't visit the US right now unless it's an unavoidable necessity.
Apple Music shows this as a track on a 2-disc deluxe version! Is it the same on Spotify?
Star Trek The Original Series scene. We're on the bridge of the Enterprise. Kirk is standing in gold uniform and seems perturbed about something perturbing going on. Closed caption reads, "NOTHING MAKES SENSE."

Star Trek Voyager scene. Captain Janeway in red and black uniform is standing next to a food replicator, which looks like a wall panel with touch interface buttons and a lil cubby inside where things just appear when she asks for what she wants. It's an otherwise normal starship room with some nice future space lighting sconces, probably the mess hall. Ok so she's standing alongside it and the closed caption reads, "Coffee, black." Next picture is closer in and Janeway looks surprised and offended at the replicator. Closed caption reads, "[Computer]: Make it yourself."

Star Trek The Next Generation scene. We're in a room off ship somewhere, there's railings and cork board maybe and some plants in the background. We see 2 Starfleet officers standing but they're wearing the uniforms from Original Series films, the red ones with the delta badge belt and lil flaps that open off after hours to be more casual like. Both are kind of standing at attention like they're giving a report on something v important and have a serious look. They're speaking to someone off camera but we can only see their shadow on the wall. Closed caption reads, "It was controlling the balls."
Star Trek IV, the One with the Whales scene. Kirk is pictured in his Sydney Opera House undershirt/Red jacket uniform and standing on a Klingon ship. Background is dingy and greenish with red lights on instrument panes. Kirk's expression is like that thing when you eat way too much pasta and cheese and bread and then just want to lay down and sleep for a week. Closed caption reads, "This is an extremely primitive and paranoid culture."
