Another contrast—this time, between this case and United States v. Skrmetti, 605 U. S. 495 (2025)—is also striking. In Skrmetti, several parents challenged Tennessee’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors. The suit raised claims grounded in both equal protection and substantive due process. As to the latter, the parents in Skrmetti, similarly to the parents here, asserted a right “to make decisions concerning medical care for their minor children.” Pet. for Cert., O. T. 2023, No. 23–466, p. 34; see id., at 18 (invoking a “right of parents with respect to the care, custody, and control of their children, including in decisions about medical care”). And in support of that right, the Skrmetti parents relied on the same precedents the Court does today: Parham, 442 U. S. 584, and Pierce, 268 U. S. 510. See Pet. for Cert., No. 23–466, at 34–36; ante, at 5–6. But the Court, when deciding to grant certiorari in Skrmetti, limited its review to the equal protection issue: It would not even hear the parents out on their substantive due process claim.

This footnote in the Kagan dissent specifically called out how they avoided this sdp claim in the Skrmetti case but then decided it here in an emergency shadow docket posture here. It's all calvinball where the principal is whatever hurts trans people.

I avoided ANYTHING about the second Macross Delta movie, and then some jerk posted pics of the "VF-29 Maximilian Jenius Special" without warning.

Yes and no...? If you film it and upload it, it's out of your hands. And you can't trust EVERYONE to keep it secret.

Film it if you must (BUT DON'T). Share it with people you trust (BUT DON'T).

I run a UC Gundam group on Facebook, and I got SERIOUSLY ANGRY when some dude posted photos of the "White Gundam" from GQuuuuuuX before the movie had come out in the States.

I hear what you're saying, but I'm not sure there's much of a difference. It gets filmed, it gets uploaded, people see it, and people talk.

I don't know about now, but in 2009, torrent sites WERE the foreign public conduit for anime.

I went to Japan eight days after Eva 2.0 opened (again, 2009!), and some asshole (in the Macross forum, of all places!) in the Animesuki Forums had already spoiled the ending for me.

Yeah. It's bad, but it happens. And has been happening for many years.

And still, we got into the second Gundam Hathaway movie with no issues.

Hell, I even pulled out my phone halfway through to check the time, and no one looked twice!

There are some good points here, but, despite what he says, it HAS happened before. And with Evangelion! The last 20 minutes of Eva 2.0 (in 2009) and many clips from 3.0+1.0 (in 2021) were filmed in the theater by foreigners and uploaded to torrents sites at the time.

My take on the Evangelion short film leak:
It’s a complicated situation. On the 1 hand, photos and filming of events like this is often strictly prohibited at all by the organizers. It’s not just khara being a butt, it’s almost always the case for any Japanese events like this. It’s a normal policy.

Were you not around when the last 20 minutes of Eva 2.0 were filmed by a Brazilian guy who immediately uploaded his video to all the torrent sites in 2009...?
