Pedagogically, I think it's the first time we take a known pattern, modify something to match it, and then solve the problem from there. At least at that level of abstraction.

The place I've really seen it used is in calc where you use it to rewrite some factorable quadratics into usable things that integrate nicely.
It's also good for understanding the why, rather than just the what.
There is a right triangle with a fixed length hypotenuse formed by the big square lining up with the four stacked smaller squares. By Thale's theorem, that screams circle to me.

You make a triangle out of the three points and find its circumcenter from the perpendicular bisectors of its sides. (the perpendicular bisector of a chord passes through the center of the circle, so we treat each side of the triangle as a chord)
